چکیده

Abstract. We propose a compact reaction rate formula that accounts for a non-equilibrium distribution of residence times of complex molecules, based on a detailed study of the coarse-grained phase space of a reaction coordinate. We take the structural transition dynamics of a six-atomMorse cluster between two isomers as a prototype of multi-dimensional molecular reactions. Residence time distribution of one of the isomers shows an exponential decay, while that of the other isomer deviates largely from the exponential form and has multiple peaks. Our rate formula explains such equilibrium and non-equilibrium distributions of residence times in terms of the rates of diffusions of energy and the phase of the oscillations of the reaction coordinate. Rapid diffusions of energy and the phase generally give rise to the exponential decay of residence time distribution, while slow diffusions give rise to a non-exponential decay with multiple peaks. We finally make a conjecture about a general relationship between the rates of the diffusions and the symmetry of molecular mass distributions.

Damping Rates of Hot Giant Dipole Resonances

The damping rate of hot giant dipole resonances (GDR) is investigated. Besides Landau damping we consider collisions and density fluctuations as contributions to the damping of GDR. Within the nonequilibrium Green’s function method we derive a non-Markovian kinetic equation. The linearization of the latter one leads to complex dispersion relations. The complex solution provides the centroid ene...

Basis set study of classical rotor lattice dynamics.

The reorientational relaxation of molecular systems is important in many phenomenon and applications. In this paper, we explore the reorientational relaxation of a model Brownian rotor lattice system with short range interactions in both the high and low temperature regimes. In this study, we use a basis set expansion to capture collective motions of the system. The single particle basis set is...

Theoretical computation of the quantum transport of zigzag mono-layer Graphenes with various z-direction widths

The quantum transport computations have been carried on four different width of zigzag graphene using a nonequilibrium Green’s function method combined with density functional theory. The computed properties are included transmittance spectrum, electrical current and quantum conductance at the 0.3V as bias voltage.  The considered systems were composed from one-layer graphene sheets differing w...

Ultrafast diffraction and structural dynamics: the nature of complex molecules far from equilibrium.

Studies of molecular structures at or near their equilibrium configurations have long provided information on their geometry in terms of bond distances and angles. Far-from-equilibrium structures are relatively unknown-especially for complex systems-and generally, neither their dynamics nor their average geometries can be extrapolated from equilibrium values. For such nonequilibrium structures,...

Are pressure fluctuation-based equilibrium methods really worse than nonequilibrium methods for calculating viscosities?

Nonequilibrium methods have become increasingly popular for calculating the viscosity of liquids. The use of nonequilibrium methods is frequently rationalized by the notion that pressure fluctuation-based equilibrium methods, such as those using the Green–Kubo GK formula and the Einstein relation, do not converge well, and hence are less suitable than nonequilibrium methods. In this short note,...
