چکیده

In view of the appreciable number of cases of nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) which failed to clear up or relapsed after treatment with a 5-day course of oxytetracycine at St. Thomas' Hospital, observations were carried out in an effort to determine whether residual infection in the anterior or posterior urethra was primarily responsible for the persistence of threads in the first urine specimen of the two-glass test in the absence of obvious urethral discharge.

Urinary abnormalities in non gonococcal urethritis.

The association between urinary abnormalities detected by the two-glass urine test and objective urethritis was investigated in a study of 221 male patients with non-gonococcal urethritis. A strong correlation existed between urinary threads and urethritis, but use of the test for diagnosis and in the assessment of cure is limited by its poor predictive value in both treated and untreated patie...

Isolation of Ureaplasma urealyticum from urological out patients.

Ureaplasma urealyticum was isolated in 25.5% of the patients with urethritis and in 12.9% of the patients with prostatitis. The organism was isolated more frequently in non-gonococcal urethritis than in gonorrheal urethritis. It may thus be said that the isolation rate was higher among patients with overt signs or symptoms as compared with the common isolation rate in urine reportedly being abo...

Quantitative studies on the role of Ureaplasma urealyticum in non-gonococcal urethritis and chronic prostatitis.

Quantitative determinations of U. urealyticum and M. hominis have been performed in 164 men with non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) and 597 patients with chronic prostatitis. Evidence is provided that U. urealyticum plays an etiologic role in 29.3 percent of patients with non-gonococcal urethritis. Mixed infections of C. trachomatis and U. urealyticum, in high numbers, do occur in 11 percent of NG...

Prostatitis after urethritis in Singapore.

Prostatitis is usually more common after nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) than after gonococcal urethritis (King, 1964; British Medical3Journal, 1972; Schofield, 1972). Observations made during the early part of a tour of duty in 1970 as Venereologist at the British Military Hospital in Singapore suggested that the reverse might be the case there. It was, therefore, decided to examine the prostat...

Role of Chlamydia trachomatis in non-acute prostatitis.

The possible role of Chlamydia trachomatis in non-acute prostatitis was investigated by cultural and serological techniques in a study of 53 adult males. C. trachomatis was isolated from the urethra of only one of the 53 patients and from none of the 28 specimens of prostatic fluid from the same patients. By means of a modified microimmunofluorescent test, serum chlamydial IgG antibodies at a t...
