The role of multidetector computed tomography for detecting aortic root pseudoanerysms complicating infective endocarditis

چکیده
Echocardiography is the mainstay imaging technique for detecting infective endocarditis vegetations but may struggle to detect and characterise complicating features. There is increasing interest in the use of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) as an adjunct to echocardiography, especially where there is concern for abscess or pseudoaneurysm formation. We present the case of a 70-year-old male with bio-prosthetic aortic valve endocarditis complicated by a large infected left ventricular outflow tract pseudoaneurysm which was diagnosed using MDCT angiography. Radiologists and clinicians should be aware of the emerging role of MDCT in this setting in order to advise and direct an appropriate

Evaluation of Congenital Mitral-aortic Intervalvular Fibrosa Aneurysm: Role of Multidetector Computed Tomography in Congenital Heart Disease
Mitral-aortic intervalvular fibrosa aneurysm is a rare disease entity whose aetiology remains uncertain. Most of the cases reported are believed to be a sequela of infective endocarditis. We present a case of congenital mitralaortic intervalvular fibrosa aneurysm, representing the first patient to be diagnosed at birth in the literature. This report illustrates the imaging features of mitral-ao...
متن کاملMyocardial Infarction and Aortic Root Mycotic Aneurysm Complicating Aortic Valve Endocarditis: Utility of Cardiac CT
Aortic mycotic aneurysms are a rare but life-threatening potential complication of infective endocarditis. Rapid deterioration of the vascular wall in highly focal areas makes these pseudoaneurysms particularly prone to rupture, resulting in uncontrolled aortic hemorrhage. While computed tomography angiography (CTA) is the imaging modality of choice for the evaluation of mycotic aneurysms, it i...
متن کاملCompression of the right coronary artery by an aortic pseudoaneurysm after infective endocarditis: an unusual case of myocardial ischemia
A 61-year-old male with a prosthetic St Jude aortic valve size 24 presented with heart failure symptoms and minimal-effort angina. Eleven months earlier, the patient had undergone cardiac surgery because of an aortic root dilatation and bicuspid aortic valve with severe regurgitation secondary to infectious endocarditis by Coxiela burnetii and coronary artery disease in the left circumflex coro...
متن کاملLeft sinus of valsalva aneurysm ruptured into left ventricle
RATIONALE Ruptured aneurysm originating from the left coronary sinus of Valsalva into the left ventricle (LV) is extremely rare. Imaging features of sinus aneurysm has been commonly reported using echocardiography or angiography. Here, we report multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) findings of left sinus of Valsalva aneurysm extending into the LV and caused severe aortic regurgitation (AR) ...
متن کاملAortic valve destruction and pseudoaneurysm of the sinus of Valsalva associated with infective endocarditis.
We report the successful surgical treatment of a case of aortic valve destruction and pseudoaneurysm of the sinus of Valsalva associated with infective endocarditis (IE) in an 80-year-old woman. Multidetector-row computed tomography revealed an abnormal cavity in the left posterior aortic root. We had made the diagnosis of the aortic valve destruction and saccular pseudoaneurysm of the sinus of...
