چکیده
Figure 1. Preoperative view of the left hand demonstrating swan-neck deformity of the index finger. DESCRIPTION A 34-year-old woman with cerebral palsy presented with swan-neck deformity of the left index and long fingers (Fig 1). The proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint was found locked in hyperextension, but the patient could actively flex it if the hyperextension was corrected. The patient was treated with the flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) sling procedure utilizing suture anchor support.

Treatment of swan neck deformity in cerebral palsy.
Swan neck deformity in patients with cerebral palsy can result from hand intrinsic muscle spasticity or overpull of the digital extensors. After accurate identification of the etiology of the deformity, surgical treatment is directed at correcting the underlying muscle imbalance. Intrinsic lengthening can be used to treat intrinsic muscle spasticity, whereas central slip tenotomy is employed wh...
متن کاملResults of Dynamic Claw Correction in Ulnar nerve Palsy
Normal hand function is a balance between the extrinsic-intrinsic and extensor-flexor group of musculature. Although individually the intrinsics are very small muscles, collectively they contribute about 50% of grip strength. Total 19 patents with claw deformity were corrected by 4 different techniques. 11 claws were due to high ulnar nerve palsy and 8 were due to low palsy. Result was excellen...
متن کاملAbductor pollicis longus tendon division with swan neck thumb deformity
Swan neck thumb deformity can be caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, tendon transfers and paralytic diseases. Abductor pollicis longus is one of the major stabilizing tendon of the carpometacarpal joint of thumb. To the best of our knowledge, swan neck thumb deformity owing to division of abductor pollicis longus tendon is rare. In this article, we desc...
متن کاملProximal femoral geometry in cerebral palsy: a population-based cross-sectional study.
There is much debate about the nature and extent of deformities in the proximal femur in children with cerebral palsy. Most authorities accept that increased femoral anteversion is common, but its incidence, severity and clinical significance are less clear. Coxa valga is more controversial and many authorities state that it is a radiological artefact rather than a true deformity. We measured f...
