Measurement of MW from LEP2

چکیده

In 1997 each LEP experiment collected approximately 55 pb −1 of data at a center-of-mass energy of 183 GeV. These data yield a sample of candidate e + e − → W + W − events from which the mass of the W boson, MW, is measured. The LEP combined result, including data taken at √ s = 161 and 172 GeV and assuming the Standard Model relation between the W decay width and mass, is MW = 80.35 ± 0.07(exp) ± 0.04(CR) ± 0.03(E bm) GeV, where the errors correspond to experimental, colour-reconnection/Bose-Einstein, and LEP beam energy uncertainties respectively.

Measurement of the W Mass at LEP2 C.J. Parkes a On behalf of the Lep Collaborations

The mass of the W boson has been measured by the Lep collaborations from the data recorded during the Lep2 programme at e + e − centre of mass energies from 161 to 209 GeV, giving the result : MW = 80.450 ± 0.039 GeV/c 2. This paper discusses the measurements of the W Mass from direct reconstruction of the invariant mass of the W + W − decay products, particular emphasis is placed on the evalua...

Colour Reconnection at Lep

Two measurements are presented of estimators sensitive to the Colour Reconnection effect in WW events at LEP2. The results are compared with various phenomenological Monte Carlo implementations of the effect. A feasibility study is performed to reduce the total uncertainty in the direct mW measurement at LEP2 by use of the inferred information about the Colour Reconnection effect.

Threshold Cross Section at LEP2

The rapid increase of the e+e− → W+W− cross section in the threshold region provides a method for measuring MW at LEP2. The dependence of the theoretical cross section — including the effects of the finite W width, Coulomb interactions and initial state radiation — on the collider energy and on the mass and width of theW is investigated in order to deduce the optimal collider energy which maxim...

W Mass Measurement at Lep

In 1998, the four experiments of LEP, i.e. ALEPH, DELPHI, L3 and OPAL, collected data of about 175 pb −1 per experiment at the center-of-mass energy of 189 GeV. Using these data, the mass of W boson was directly measured by reconstructing the decay products of two W bosons from the e+e-collisions. The W mass measurement was combined personally with the results obtained from data at 161, 172, an...

WEXTER and ERAFITTER: two programs to fit MW at LEP2 using the best measurable kinematical variables

In this paper, we present two programs to fit MW at LEP2 using the best measurable kinematical variables. The theoretical probabilities of observing the final-state kinematical configurations are computed by integrating over the quantities that are not well measured. Therefore, an event-by-event kinematical reconstruction is avoided. MW is then determined through a maximum likelihood fit. CERN-...
