Interplay between metabolic rate and diet quality in the South 4 American fox ,

چکیده
24 Abstract 25 26 We studied the metabolic costs associated with the ingestion of peppertree fruits (Schinus molle) in the culpeo fox, 27 Pseudalopex culpaeus, the second largest canid in South America. Throughout its range of distribution, this fox feeds 28 on rodents and other small vertebrates, and also on peppertree fruits, which represent 98% of total fruits consumed in 29 semiarid Chile. Peppertree contains a high diversity of phytochemicals. Foxes feeding on diets containing rats and 30 peppertree fruits (mixed diets) exhibited a 98.9% increase in basal rate of metabolism when compared to rat-acclimated 31 foxes. Thus, acute ingestion of chemically defended fruits has an energetic cost for the fox, reflected in higher values 32 of basal metabolism. Increased metabolic rates may be associated with increased protein synthesis for detoxification and 33 for tissue repair, including the production of biotransformation enzymes. 34 2003 Elsevier Science Inc. Correlation between Diet Quality and Metabolic Syndrome
Background: The metabolic syndrome (MetS) is increasing with an alarming rate world wide. Since diet components' studies that focus on MetS have produced largely inconsistent results, assessing the whole diet than single nutrients on health can be more practical. The purpose of this study was to determine the association between diet quality and MetS components. Methods: This cross-sectional st...
متن کاملThe Relationship between Diet Quality and Acculturation of Immigrated South Asian American Adults and Their Association with Metabolic Syndrome
Even though the total SA American population is increasing rapidly, there is a paucity of information on the relationship between diet quality, acculturation and health outcomes such as Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) in the low-income South Asian (SA) sub-population. Our goal was to examine diet quality, degree of acculturation and their potential influence on MetS in a diverse sample of SA American...

Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a serious public health concern worldwide; however, the pathogenesis of this disease has not been yet cleared. This study aimed to compare diet quality in obese/overweight participants with/without metabolic syndrome with normal weight controls. Methods: This was a comparative study on 147 Iranian adults under treatment at the Endocrinology Cen...
