On estimation and influence diagnostics for the Grubbs' model under heavy-tailed distributions

چکیده
The Grubbs’ measurement model is frequently used to comparing several measuring devices. It is common to assume that the random terms have a normal distribution. However, such assumption makes the inference vulnerable to outlying observations whereas scale mixtures of normal distributions have been an interesting alternative to produce robust estimates keeping the elegancy and simplicity of the maximum likelihood theory. The aim of this paper is to develop an EM-type algorithm for the parameter estimation and to use the local influence method to assessing the robustness aspects of these parameter estimates under some usual perturbation schemes. In order to identify outliers and to criticize the model building we use the local influence procedure in a study to compare the precision of several thermocouples.

Nonparametric control chart based on rank is used for detecting changes in median(mean). In this article ,Signed-rank control chart is considered with variable sampling interval. We compared the performance of Signed-rank with variable sampling interval (VSI-SR) to Signed-rank with Fixed Sampling interval (FSI-SR),the numerical results demonstrated the VSI feature is so useful. متن کاملStatistical Wavelet-based Image Denoising using Scale Mixture of Normal Distributions with Adaptive Parameter Estimation
Removing noise from images is a challenging problem in digital image processing. This paper presents an image denoising method based on a maximum a posteriori (MAP) density function estimator, which is implemented in the wavelet domain because of its energy compaction property. The performance of the MAP estimator depends on the proposed model for noise-free wavelet coefficients. Thus in the wa...
متن کاملThe Family of Scale-Mixture of Skew-Normal Distributions and Its Application in Bayesian Nonlinear Regression Models
In previous studies on fitting non-linear regression models with the symmetric structure the normality is usually assumed in the analysis of data. This choice may be inappropriate when the distribution of residual terms is asymmetric. Recently, the family of scale-mixture of skew-normal distributions is the main concern of many researchers. This family includes several skewed and heavy-tailed d...
متن کاملMeasures of Deviation (and Dependence) for Heavy-Tailed Distributions and their Estimation under Interval and Fuzzy Uncertainty
Traditionally, in science and engineering, most statistical techniques are based on the assumption that the random variables are normally distributed. For such distributions, a natural characteristic of the “average” value is the mean, and a natural characteristic of the deviation from the average is the variance. However, in many practical situations, e.g., in economics and finance, we encount...
متن کاملThe Distribution of Test Statistics for Outlier Detection in Heavy-tailed Samples
We investigate the asymptotic behavior of test statistics outliers for sample drawn from heavy{tailed distributions. We extend classical results of David, Hartley and Pearson (1954) and Grubbs (1969), who considered outlier test statistics for the nite{variance case, to the heavy{tailed in nite variance case. Our main result concerns the limiting distribution of n 1=2On for the outlier statisti...
