چکیده

In connection with the problem of the determination of the cardiac output by the use of ethylene (13), it seemed of interest to investigate further the nature of the forces which make the solubility of this gas 1% times as great in human blood as it is in water. The general problem of the nature of the factors which determine the solubility of gases in blood is of importance not only because of the theoretical considerations involved but also because of the practical application of these values to such problems as the determination of the cardiac output, the general problem of anesthesia, and the like. Despite the number of determinations of the solubility of gases in blood which have been made in the past, there is still much confusion regarding the factors which determine the solubility of a given gas in blood or blood fluids. Of particular practical interest, too, is the problem of the variation of this solubility with different bloods of the same and different species. The present communication reports data on the solubility of several gases in water, blood, and aqueous solutions of certain blood constituents for the value which these data may have on the further elucidation of the problems mentioned above.

Determination of Natural In Vivo Noble-Gas Concentrations in Human Blood

Although the naturally occurring atmospheric noble gases He, Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe possess great potential as tracers for studying gas exchange in living beings, no direct analytical technique exists for simultaneously determining the absolute concentrations of these noble gases in body fluids in vivo. In this study, using human blood as an example, the absolute concentrations of all stable atmosp...

A method for determining inert gas ("N2") solubility in urine.

The present interest in the physiology of inert gases makes desirable a more accurate and reproducible method for determining the inert gas content of biological fluids than is currently available (2). This communication describes such a method. The method has been tested on water and used to determine the solubility of the inert gas of air in human urines of different solute concentrations at ...

Blood gases and metabolite content and ruminal fermentation in response to diets with different fermentability in Holstein dairy cows

The objective of this study was to determine the effects of diets having different fermentability on blood gases, blood metabolites and ruminal fermentation parameters in Holstein dairy cows. Four multiparous Holstein dairy cows (665 ± 25 kg BW, 170 ± 7.0 DIM and 15±1.5 kg of milk yield), fitted with rumen cannulae, were used in a 4×4 Latin Square design with 28-d periods. Corn starch and sucro...

Modeling the Solubility of Acid Gases in Ionic Liquids

In this work, the PC-SAFT equation of state (EoS) has been used to model the solubility of acid gases (CO2 and H2S) in two imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) ([C8-mim][PF6] and [C8-mim][Tf2N]). Parameters of pure ILs were estimated using experimental densities. Two strategies were considered to model densities of pure ILs. In strategy 1, ILs were modeled as nonassociating compounds and in st...
