چکیده

This paper reports on the key features of the “Guide for the Design and Construction of Concrete Reinforced with FRP Bars” issued by the American Concrete Institute (ACI). For new construction, FRP bars have been used as the internal reinforcement in concrete members to replace conventional steel rebars for a host of reasons. The principles for design and construction were first established and proposed to industry in 2001. The third revision of the guide is now under preparation. The Existing Document In 2001, the American Concrete Institute (ACI) published the first guide offering recommendations for design and construction of FRP-reinforced concrete (RC) structures as an emerging technology (ACI 440, 2001). The document was re-issued with some minor changes in 2003 (ACI 440, 2003). At present, the ACI Technical Committee 440 is working on the third edition that presents some significant changes from the current document. The current and new ACI documents of reference only address non-prestressed FRP reinforcement. A separate ACI guide is devoted to prestressed concrete using FRP tendons.

Forecasting of Shear Strength of Concrete Beam Reinforced with FRP Bar

This study develops a new approach for forecasting shear Strength of concrete beam without stirrups based on the artificial neural networks (ANN). Proposed ANN considers geometric and mechanical properties of cross section and FRP bars, and shear span-depth ratio. The ANN model is constructed from a set of experimental database available in the past literature. Efficiency of the ANN model was c...

Flexural Behavior of Lightweight Concrete Beams Reinforced with GFRP Bars and Effects of the Added Micro and Macro Fiber

This study evaluated the effect of macro steel fiber (SF), micro glass fiber (GF) and micro polypropylene fiber (PF) in lightweight aggregate concrete, (LWAC) beams reinforced with glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars. Firstly, concrete mixtures with different volume fractions of GF, PF and SF were tested up to compressive strength, then determine the optimum fiber content GF, PF and SF a...

North American Design Guidelines for Concrete Reinforcement and Strengthening Using Frp: Principles, Applications, and Unresolved Issues

This paper reports on the North American state-of-the-art in the use of FRP composites in concrete structures. FRP bars have been used as the internal reinforcement in concrete members to replace conventional steel rebars for a host of reasons. The principles for design and construction have been established and proposed to industry by the American Concrete Institute (ACI). The fundamental prin...

Performance Evaluation of an FRP-Reinforced Concrete Bridge

As part of a larger project to investigate the use of Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) materials in bridge construction, a short-span FRP-reinforced concrete bridge was installed in central Missouri. The Walters Street Bridge is a precast concrete panel bridge reinforced with both glass FRP (GFRP) and carbon FRP (CFRP) reinforcing bars. It was designed according to the American Concrete Institute...

Prediction of effective moment of inertia for hybrid FRP-steel reinforced concrete beams using the genetic algorithm

Abstract:   The use of Concrete beams reinforced with a combination of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) and steel bars has increased dramatically in recent years, due to improvement in strength and flexural ductility simultaneously. In this paper, we proposed a new equation for estimating the effective moment of inertia of hybrid FRP-steel reinforced concrete (RC) beams on the basis of the...
