The benefit of VMI strategies in a stochastic multi-product serial two echelon system
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider a multi-product serial two echelon inventory system with stochastic demand. Inventories at the downstream location are replenished periodically using an automatic ordering system. Under vendor managed inventory strategies the upstream stage is allowed to adapt these orders in order to benefit from economies of scale. We propose three different VMI strategies, aiming to reduce the order picking cost at the upstream location and the transportation costs resulting in reduced total supply chain costs. In a detailed numerical study the VMI strategies are compared with a retailer managed inventory strategy for two different demand models suitable for slow moving products. It is shown that if inventory holding costs are low, compared to handling and transportation costs, efficiencies at the warehouse are improved and total supply chain costs are reduced. keywords: vendor managed inventory, coordinated replenishment, order-picking ∗corresponding author: GP Kiesmüller, fax: + 31 4

Inventory Cost Evaluation Under VMI Program with Lot Splitting
This paper aims to evaluate inventory cost of a Two-echelon serial supply chain system under vendor managed inventory program with stochastic demand, and examine the effect of environmental factors on the cost of overall system. For this purpose, we consider a two-echelon serial supply chain with a manufacturer and a retailer. Under Vendor managed inventory program, the decision on inventory ...
متن کاملSupplier Selection in Three Echelon Supply Chain & Vendor Managed Inventory Model Under Price Dependent Demand Condition
This paper, considers the supplier selection in three echelon supply chain with Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) strategy under price dependent demand condition. As there is a lack of study on the supplier selection in VMI literature, this paper presents a VMI model in supply chain including multi supplier, one distributer and multi retailer that distributer selects suppliers. Two class models (t...
متن کاملOptimizing a bi-objective vendor-managed inventory of multi-product EPQ model for a green supply chain with stochastic constraints
In this paper, a bi-objective multi-product single-vendor single-buyer supply chain problem is studied under green vendor-managed inventory (VMI) policy based on the economic production quantity (EPQ) model. To bring the model closer to real-world supply chain, four constraints of model including backordering cost, number of orders, production budget and warehouse space are considered stochasti...
متن کاملAn Introduction to Hybrid Model Inventory Control with a Green Supplier Selection Model under Uncertainty
In the current decade, determining the most appropriate supplier as a strategic factor in the supply chain has attracted lots of consideration. On the other hand, organizations do necessary measures to implement green supply chain management in order to improve environmental and economic performance. An important way to implement green supply chain management, could be revising the method of pu...
متن کاملLower Bounds for Multi-echelon Stochastic Inventory Systems
e establish lower bounds on the minimum costs of managing certain productiondistribution networks with setup costs at all stages and stochastic demands. These networks include serial, assembly, and one-warehouse multi-retailer systems. We obtain the bounds through novel cost-allocation schemes. We evaluate the bounds' performance for one-warehouse multi-retailer systems by comparing them with s...
