Systematic Study of Particle Production at High pT with the PHENIX Experiment

چکیده
A systematic study of particle production at large transverse momentum (pT ) with the PHENIX experiment at RHIC is shown. We demonstrate that the suppression of the yield of high pT hadrons in central Au+Au collisions compared to the scaled p+p reference persists up to highest pT for neutral pions and η mesons. A similar suppression pattern is also observed in Cu+Cu collisions at the same energy. In addition we present the first RHIC results on high-pT particle production close to SPS energies.

Neutral Meson Measurement at Phenix
Measurements from the RHIC experiments show strong suppression of high-pT hadrons in central Au+Au collisions. The PHENIX experiment has observed strong suppression of π0 and charged hadron yields in central Au+Au collisions for pT > 5 GeV/c regardless of pT and particle species. The observed suppression is interpreted in terms of energy loss of quarks in a high-density medium. The PHENIX Year-...

The suppression of hadrons with large transverse momentum (pT) in central Au+Au collisions at √ sNN = 200 GeV compared to a binary scaled p+p reference is one of the major discoveries at RHIC. To understand the nature of this suppression PHENIX has performed detailed studies of the energy and systemsize dependence of the suppression pattern, including the first RHIC measurement near SPS energie...

It has been established that "hard probes", observables involving high-momentum transfer, provide useful tools for studying the hot, dense medium created in nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC. The nuclear modification factor, azimuthal correlations, direct photon production, as well as the dependence of the nuclear modificaton factor on centrality and angle with respect to the reaction plane ar...

The origin of the azimuthal anisotropy in particle yields at high pT (pT > 5 GeV/c) in RHIC collisions remains an intriguing puzzle. Traditional flow and parton energy loss models have failed to completely explain the large v2 observed at high pT . Measurement of this parameter at high pT will help to gain an understanding of the interplay between flow, recombination and energy loss, and the ro...
متن کاملSystematic Study of High-pT Direct Photon Production with the PHENIX Experiment at RHIC
When studying the initial state and evolution of the matter created in relativistic heavy ion collisions, high-pT direct photons are a powerful probe. They are created in initial hard processes and in parton fragmentation, and possibly in interactions of partons with the hot and dense medium. We present systematic measurements of high-pT direct photon production in √ sNN = 200 GeV p+p and Au+Au...
