چکیده

We have measured the central stellar velocity dispersion in the host galaxies of 11 BL Lac objects with redshifts z ≤ 0.125. The range of velocity dispersions, ∼ 170 − 370 km s−1, is similar to that of nearby radio galaxies. Using the correlation between stellar velocity dispersion and black hole mass defined for nearby galaxies, we derive estimates of the black hole masses in the range 107.9 − 109.2 M⊙. We do not find any significant difference between the black hole masses in high-frequency-peaked and low-frequency-peaked BL Lac objects. Combining the velocity dispersions with previously measured host galaxy structural parameters, we find that the host galaxies lie on the fundamental plane of elliptical galaxies. This supports the conclusions of imaging studies that the majority of BL Lac hosts are normal giant ellipticals. On the Bl Lacertae Objects/radio Quasars and the Fri/ii Dichotomy

In the frame of unification schemes for radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGNs), FR I radio galaxies are believed to be BL Lacertae (BL Lac) objects with the relativistic jet misaligned to our line of sight, and FR II radio galaxies correspond to misaligned radio quasars. The Ledlow-Owen dividing line for FR I/FR II dichotomy in the optical absolute magnitude of host galaxy–radio luminosity (M...

Evidence for Anisotropic Motion of the Clouds in Broad-line Regions of Bl Lacertae Objects

The masses of central massive black holes in BL Lac objects are estimated from their host galaxy absolute magnitude MR at R-band by using the empirical relation between absolute magnitude of host galaxy MR and black hole mass Mbh. Only a small fraction of BL Lac objects exhibit weak broad-line emission, and we derive the sizes of the broad-line regions (BLRs) in these BL Lac objects from the wi...

The black hole mass of BL Lac objects from the stellar velocity dispersion of the host galaxy

The black hole mass of BL Lac objects from the stellar velocity dispersion of the host galaxy ABSTRACT The correlation between black hole mass M BH and stellar velocity dispersion σ in nearby elliptical galaxies affords a novel way to determine M BH in active galaxies. We report on measurements of σ from optical spectra of 7 BL Lac host galaxies. The derived values of σ are in the range of 160 ...

Jet formation in BL Lacertae objects with different accretion modes

We estimate the masses of massive black holes in BL Lac objects from their host galaxy luminosity. The power of jets and central optical ionizing luminosity for a sample of BL Lac objects are derived from their extended radio emission and the narrow-line emission, respectively. The maximal jet power can be extracted from a standard thin accretion disk/spinning black hole is calculated as a func...

The Mass Distribution of Black Holes in Bl Lacertae Objects and Evolution of Active Galactic Nuclei

In this Letter, we make an attempt to estimate the masses of black holes and their distributions in BL Lac objects. We show the mass of black hole MBH ∝ ν −13/12 pk L 3/8 pk , where νpk and Lpk are the peak frequency and luminosity in the first bump of continuum, respectively. We find there are two populations of black hole masses in BL Lacs: the first has a lower-mass peak centred at ∼ 7.0× 10...
