چکیده

Introduction The ability of tracking peripheral nerves in foot could be of great benefit for a number of clinical and research applications, which include traumas, diabetes and infections. Previous approaches to nerve tracking have employed diffusion tensor imaging (DTI, [1, 2]), which is a well established method of fiber tracking in the central nervous system. In the peripheral nervous system (PNS), however, one limitation of DTI is the low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) due to short T2 of water protons in nerve [3-5]. Furthermore, in imaging of foot nerves, the low SNR is exacerbated by the need of the high spatial-resolution (≤ 300μm) required to visualize the small nerves. Here, we propose a novel approach to nerve visualization, which exploits the difference in magnetization transfer ratio (MTR) between muscle and foot nerves.

Orientation Dependence of Magnetization Transfer in Human White Matter

Introduction. Detailed information about macromolecules could be most valuable for a better understanding of tissue composition. Information about macromolecules can be obtained from magnetization-transfer (MT) experiments using off-resonance saturation of the broad macromolecular resonance line and observation of the effect on the free water pool [1]. Another aspect of microstructure is orient...

Magnetization Transfer Effects in Wideband SSFP

INTRODUCTION: Wideband SSFP (wbSSFP) is an alternating TR SSFP sequence that provides increased band spacing compared to conventional SSFP [1,2]. Like balanced SSFP (bSSFP), wbSSFP provides high signal-to noise efficiency and T2/T1 weighting. It has recently been shown that the signal intensity of bSSFP is strongly affected by magnetization transfer (MT) effects [3]. There has also been recent ...

T1, T2 relaxation and magnetization transfer in tissue at 3T.

T1, T2, and magnetization transfer (MT) measurements were performed in vitro at 3 T and 37 degrees C on a variety of tissues: mouse liver, muscle, and heart; rat spinal cord and kidney; bovine optic nerve, cartilage, and white and gray matter; and human blood. The MR parameters were compared to those at 1.5 T. As expected, the T2 relaxation time constants and quantitative MT parameters (MT exch...

A Novel Classification Method using Effective Neural Network and Quantitative Magnetization Transfer Imaging of Brain White Matter in Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis

Background: Quantitative Magnetization Transfer Imaging (QMTI) is often used to quantify the myelin content in multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions and normal appearing brain tissues. Also, automated classifiers such as artificial neural networks (ANNs) can significantly improve the identification and classification processes of MS clinical datasets. Objective: We classified patients with relapsing-r...

Pathological Assessment of Brain White Matter in Relapsing-Remitting MS Patients using Quantitative Magnetization Transfer Imaging

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by lesions in the white matter (WM) of the central nervous system. Magnetic resonance imaging is the most specific and sensitive method for diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. However, the ability of conventional MRI to show histopathologic heterogeneity of MS lesions is insufficient. Quantitative magnetization transfer imaging (qMTI) is a rel...
