چکیده

Majority of the fungi producing diseases in man and animals exist freely in nature as soil saprophytes or plant pathogens and gain entrance into the body through abrasion, implantation or inhalation. Adametz isolated fungi for the first time from the soil in the year 1886, since then there has been very few reports. Manipal and surrounding places being coastal areas, experience heavy rainfall with high atmospheric humidity which is most suitable for fungal growth. Soil with natural bamboo habitat in nearby Western ghats with rat burrows predisposes the fungal growth in the area.

Occurance of Keratinophilic Fungi from the Soils of Chhattisgarh

Soil is considered as the most complex media of microbial inhabitants including fungi. Soils differ in chemical composition and support the growth of specific fungal flora, however, majority of the soil fungi are autochthonous being indigenous to soil environment. Some of the soil fungi are associated with human and animal diseases and cause chronic problems. The soil containing keratin materia...

A Preliminary Study on the Occurrence of Keratinophilic Fungi in Soils of Jamaica

This report represents the first study of keratinophilic fungi present in soils of Jamaica. Out of the 40 soil samples examined from different habitats, 30 (75%) were positive for the presence of keratinophilic fungi, yielding 36 isolates of keratinophilic fungi. Microsporum gypseum complex (represented by 16 isolates of M. gypseum, and four of M. fulvum) was most frequent, being present in 50%...

Isolation of Keratinophilic Fungi from Soil Samples of Forests and Farm Yards

Soil is well known to support the transient or ongoing existence of kerathophilic fungi and potential sources of infection for humans and animals. Fifty soil samples were collected from various areas of forests and farmyards at Golestan Province in the north part of Iran to determine the prevalence of keratinophilic fungi and dominant species. A total of 357 fungal colonies including 13 genera ...
