چکیده

River water is a very important natural resource of water for meeting the requirements of various sectors in the world and for this reason cannot be looked upon in isolation [1]. The Hasdeo River is second largest tributary of the Mahanadi River system in East Central India. Hasdeo River in Chhattisgarh is influenced by the various problems imparted by excessive industrialization, urbanization and rapid agricultural usage similar to other riverine system. The water quality of Hasdeo River has been deteriorating due to loss of their selfpurification capacity with the addition of metal and organic pollutants day by day [2]. This pollution not only affects water quality, but also directly or indirectly threats human health, economic growth and social prosperity. In developing countries like India mostly rivers are polluted. In India, mostly farmers irrigate their crops with river water having contaminants like high amount of organic compounds and heavy metals due to unavailability of alternate sources of irrigation that ultimately affects biochemical response of crop plants and yield [3,4]. The evaluation of metal toxicity and organic pollutants present in the river water are immensely important to determine their phytotoxicity, before their possible utilization in agriculture and human consumptions. On other hand, concern about the adverse effect of polluted Hasdeo River water has not arisen until the last decade. Hence, this study deals with the toxicological evaluation of Hasdeo River water by using seeds of Vigna radiata L. in terms of seed germination, seedling growth and amylase activity for environmental safety. This study was extended to analyze chemical texture of Hasdeo River water for validation of this toxicological behavior.

Arsenic Induced Changes in Growth and Physiological Responses in Vigna radiata Seedling: Effect of Curcumin Interaction

Arsenic is a great hazard to the environment since it is a major source of soil and water contamination leading to phytotoxicity. Arsenic caused reduction in seed germination and growth of plants including mung bean (Vigna radiata) causing loss of crop productivity. This investigation evaluates effect of arsenic toxicity in mung bean with an attempt to ameliorate it by the application of curcum...

Germinating seeds of the mung bean, Vigna radiata (Fabaceae), as a model for the preliminary evaluation of cytotoxic effects of drugs.

Cytotoxic properties of plant extracts and drugs being developed for cancer treatment are usually evaluated by a variety of in vivo and in vitro tests carried out in animal or plant based models. In the present study we have evaluated the possibility of using the germinating mung beans (Vigna radiata), for rapid and inexpensive screening of drugs exhibiting cytotoxic properties. Mung beans were...

Inhibition of Seed Germination By Propyl Gallate, A Free Radical Scavenger and Recovery of Germination By Hydrogen Peroxide and Ethylene in Vigna Radiata

In the present investigation, effect of propyl gallate, a free radical scavenger, was studied on germination of Vigna radiata seeds to verify the role of active oxygen species in the regulation of seed germination. Propyl gallate inhibited germination and such inhibition was not due to osmotic effect as verified by the treatment with sucrose solution of similar concentrations. Treatments were a...

Influence of Nanoparticles on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Vigna radiata L

We describe a simple and cost effective method for screening the effects, of stem extract along with biogenic nanoparticles synthesized from Cissus quadrangularis stem extract, on Vigna radiata seed germination and root length. At higher concentrations (200 μl to 300 μl) of stem extract (1 2.5 g ml ) germination was completely inhibited. The inhibition was dose dependent. Synthesized nanopartic...

Effect of Ethylene Synthesis and Perception Inhibitor and ABA on Seed Germination of Vigna radiata

In the present investigation the effect of cobalt chloride (CoCl ), ethylene biosynthesis inhibitor and 2 silver nitrate (AgNO ), ethylene perception inhibitor was studied on the seed germination of Vigna radiata. 3 While ethylene slightly promoted germination, both the inhibitors decreased the germination percentage. However, Ag was more effective in retarding germination than Co . A combined ...
