Adenosine deaminase and interferon-gamma in diagnosis of tubercular pleural effusion

چکیده
Many pleural fluid markers have been evaluated for diagnosis of tubercular pleural effusion, but none has been found to be ideal as they lack in sensitivity or specificity, difficulty in performing or difficult availability etc. Some of these markers include serum CA 125, pleural alkaline phosphatase, pleural fluid Procalcitonin concentration, pleural fluid Interleukin-1, pleural tumor necrosis factor, pleural fluid PCR, cell count (total and differential count), biochemical tests [Adenosine deaminase (ADA)], and microbiological tests [Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) stain, culture] and T cell products (Interferon gamma) etc. 3

Significance of adenosine deaminase in diagnosing tuberculous pleural effusion.
Tuberculosis (TB) is a major public health problem in developing countries including Nepal. One of the common presentations of TB is pleural effusion. The diagnosis of tubercular pleural effusion can be difficult because of the low rate of detecting tubercule bacilli by direct stain and culture of pleural fluid for acid-fast bacilli (AFB). Pleural biopsy can be useful but is invasive and requir...

AIM to evaluate the diagnostic value of an interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA) with enzyme-linked immunospot (ELISPOT) method, T-SPOT.TB, in the diagnosis of pleural TB using pleural fluid mononuclear cells (PFMC). METHODS forty-eight subjects, presumed to have pleural TB with exudative pleural effusion by Light's criteria, dominated by mononuclear cells, had their pleural fluid specimen te...

Aim: To evaluate pleural fluid Adenosine deaminase as the diagnostic marker for tubercular pleural disease. Patients and Methods:New patients (n=160) with pleural effusion were divided into tubercular (n=92) and non-tubercular (n=68) groups. Non-tubercular group was further divided into patients having exudative effusion (n=46) and patients having transudative effusion (n=22). Patients with exu...

The objective of the present study is to evaluate the use of pleural fluid ADA, cytology, pleural biopsy and Mantoux test in the diagnosis of tuberculous pleural effusion. This prospective study was conducted on 92 patients December 2011– October 2013 at Government Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis Hospital, Hanamkonda. Diagnostic accuracy of pleural fluid cytology (L/N ratio >0.75) , ADA >40 U/L...
