Optimal Patterns for Suturing
نویسنده
چکیده
A mathematical model for computing stresses in sutured human skin wounds is presented. The model uses the incremental law of elasticity and elastic constants valid for in vivo orthotropic skin. The model is applied to compute the principal stress and displacements resulting from suturing small elliptical and circular wounds in a large at sheet of skin, in order to determine the optimal suturing patterns. It is observed that the average stress index for a circular wound sutured toward the center is almost double that of a wound sutured perpendicular to a diameter. Thus, the latter type of suturing pattern is preferable. Similarly, suturing an elliptical wound perpendicular to its major axis produces a lower average stress index than a circular wound of the same area. It is also found that the optimal ratio of semi-major to semi-minor axis of an elliptical wound is near 3 (for abdomenal wounds), i.e., this ratio produces the most uniform stresses along the wound edges, where wound healing is the lowest. Since high stresses have adverse eeects on healing and blood ow, this work, depicting regions of high stresses, may be used along with other biological factors to help predict regions of slower healing in sutured wounds.

The paramount goal of soft tissue surgery is closure of wound flaps, in the absence of tension on the flaps, which will lead to optimal wound healing. متن کاملAN INNOVATIVE SURGIC AL TECHNIQUE FOR CONTINUOUS SUTURING OF PROSTHESIS IN MITR AL VALVE REPL A CEMENT
Mitral valve replacement (MVR) is usually performed in two methods of running and interrupted suturing. In running method, the suturing of the valve is usually with some traction on the annulus and also there is a risk of aortic valve injury. This study was conducted to evaluate a new technique for suturing to avoid these complications and decrease the time of cardiac arrest. One hundred an...

Laparoscopic pyeloplasty is a first-line option for the management of ureteropelvic junction obstruction. It has a greater success rate than endopyelotomy and is associated with a shorter and less intense convalescence than open surgical pyeloplasty. The technique is well established and reproducible, although the procedure is more difficult in certain situations, such as after a previous pyelo...

The experimental cystotomy was performed on 24 mongrel dogs, divided in to four groups i.e. group A, B, C and D comprising 6 dogs in each group. In group-A, cystotomy wound was closed in one layer by simple continues suturing pattern, in group-B, closure was made in two layers by simple continues and lembert suturing pattern and in group-C, cystomy incision was closed by one layer simple contin...
متن کاملEndoscopic Navigation for Minimally Invasive Suturing
Manipulating small objects such as needles, screws or plates inside the human body during minimally invasive surgery can be very difficult for less experienced surgeons due to the loss of 3D depth perception. Classical navigation techniques are often incapable of providing support in such situations, as the augmentation of the scene with the necessary artificial markers--if possible at all--is ...
