Serum immunoglobulins in retinal vasculitis.

چکیده
Perivasculitis is a common pathological reaction in the retina, the veins being affected more frequently than the arteries. It is not a specific disease entity and the majority of cases are thought to result from an allergic reaction to one of a wide variety of antigens (Ashton, I962). Reviews of the subject have been published by Donders (I958), GoddeJolly (I96I), Doden (I963), Koliopoulos (i967), Duke-Elder and Dobree (I967), and Charamis (1968). Clinical and experimental observations strongly suggest that allergic mechanisms play a predominant role in retinal vasculitis (Uyama, 1936; Meyer, 1940; De Muro and Focosi, I95I; Elliot, I954; Miescher, Paronetto, Borel, and Miescher, I968). Treatment with immunosuppressives (cortisone, etc.) gives good results, as shown by Elliot (I962) and Cross (i965). Retinal vasculitis can be associated with other ocular or systemic diseases in which immune reactions are probably involved, such as uveitis, BehSet's disease, sarcoidosis, multiple sclerosis, etc., or with infective conditions, such as tuberculosis and brucellosis.

Behcet’s syndrome is a generalized vasculitis with unknown cause. Acute recurrent iritis , retinal vasculitis , retinal hemorrhage , macular edema , retinal necrosis , ischemic optic neuropathy and vitritis are the most common ophthalmologic involvement. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of ophthalmologic involvement in patients with Behcet synd...
متن کاملAlpha 1 antitrypsin serum levels and phenotypes in patients with retinal vasculitis.
alpha 1 antitrypsin is an important immunoregulatory protein, the serum level of which is genetically determined. Deficient phenotypes of this ubiquitous protease inhibitor are associated with a variety of inflammatory diseases including anterior uveitis. In order to investigate the role of this protease inhibitor in the pathogenesis of retinal vasculitis (RV) 25 patients were investigated. Dis...

The patient, a 64-year-old man, with a past history of an IgM monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS), presented with a 5-day history of ocular pain and redness in his left eye. The best-corrected visual acuity was conserved at 25/25 in both eyes. Topical instillation of phenylephrine did not blanch leading to the diagnosis of temporal anterior non-necrotizing scleritis (Figur...
متن کاملRetinal vasculitis in a mother and her son with human T-lymphotropic virus type 1 associated myelopathy.
A 53-year-old woman had difficulty in walking, raised titres to human T-lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) in serum and cerebrospinal fluid, and yellowish white retinal lesions and vasculitis in the right eye. Her 20-year-old son also had difficulty in walking, raised titres to HTLV-1 in serum and cerebrospinal fluid, and retinal vasculitis and multiple whitish vitreoretinal spots in both eyes.
