Early Warning Systems for Coastal Ecosystems and Public Health Concerns

چکیده

The concept of developing early warning systems at a range of scales to reduce the likelihood of negatively impacting ecosystems is not new. Early warning systems are often developed in response to specific, immediate concerns such as major weather events (e.g., hurricanes, cyclones, tornados) or geo-physical events (e.g., earthquakes, tsunamis, tidal waves). There is also a need to develop early warning systems that identify environmental issues that may take longer to develop, or emerge, than the natural disasters that are typically targeted. Emerging environmental threats might include types of environmental degradation that increases the vulnerability of ecosystems or decreases the resiliency of ecosystems to a point where there is a significant alteration in ecosystem function and a negative impact on human health and well-being.

The coastal environment and human health: microbial indicators, pathogens, sentinels and reservoirs

Innovative research relating oceans and human health is advancing our understanding of disease-causing organisms in coastal ecosystems. Novel techniques are elucidating the loading, transport and fate of pathogens in coastal ecosystems, and identifying sources of contamination. This research is facilitating improved risk assessments for seafood consumers and those who use the oceans for recreat...

Design and Development of Early Warning System for Desertification and Land Degradation

Early warning systems are key components of strategies to reduce risk. This research, by adopting a systematic approach in the management of the risk of desertification and by including previously developed models and systems, offers an integrated efficient structure in terms of early warning for the risk of desertification as a pilot system for semi-arid areas of west Golestan Province in IRAN...

Use of Ecosystems Science in Ecological Aquaculture

In the 21 century, aquaculture developers will need to spend as much time on technological advances coming to the field as they do in designing ecological approaches that clearly exhibit stewardship of the environment and coastal societies. The degraded state of aquatic ecosystems worldwide, combined with public concerns about adding new sources of pollution to already overburdened aquatic ecos...

Technology, conflict early warning systems, public health, and human rights.

Public health and conflict early warning are evolving rapidly in response to technology changes for the gathering, management, analysis and communication of data. It is expected that these changes will provide an unprecedented ability to monitor, detect, and respond to crises. One of the potentially most profound and lasting expected change affects the roles of the various actors in providing a...

Modelliing of Earlly Warniing Indiicators of Currency Crisis: Emphasizing the Evaluation of the Relationship Between Currency Crisis and Capital Control Index

Predicting currency fluctuations and crises is an important step in the foreign exchange policy of countries. Given that the purpose of early warning systems or patterns is to anticipate crises, their use is essential to prevent economic crises, including currency crises. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to model and rank the early warning factors of currency crisis by Bayesian averaging...
