Two-dimensional model of dynamical fermion mass generation in strongly coupled gauge theories.

چکیده
We generalize the NF = 2 Schwinger model on the lattice by adding a charged scalar field. In this so-called χUφ2 model the scalar field shields the fermion charge, and a neutral fermion, acquiring mass dynamically, is present in the spectrum. We study numerically the mass of this fermion at various large fixed values of the gauge coupling by varying the effective four-fermion coupling, and find an indication that its scaling behavior is the same as that of the fermion mass in the chiral Gross-Neveu model. This suggests that the χUφ2 model is in the same universality class as the Gross-Neveu model, and thus renormalizable and asymptotic free at arbitrary strong gauge coupling. 3 E-mail address: [email protected] 4 E-mail address: [email protected] 5 Present address: AMS, Am Seestern 1, 40547 Düsseldorf

Strongly coupled lattice gauge theory with dynamical fermion mass generation in three dimensions
We investigate the critical behaviour of a three-dimensional lattice χUφ3 model in the chiral limit. The model consists of a staggered fermion field, a U(1) gauge field (with coupling parameter β) and a complex scalar field (with hopping parameter κ). Two different methods are used: 1) fits of the chiral condensate and the mass of the neutral unconfined composite fermion to an equation of state...
متن کاملOn the dynamical breaking of chiral symmetry: a new mechanism
We consider a U(1) gauge theory, minimally coupled to a massless Dirac field, where a higher-derivative term is added to the pure gauge sector, as in the Lee-Wick models. We find that this term can trigger chiral symmetry breaking at low energy in the weak coupling regime. Then, the fermion field acquires a mass that turns out to be a function of both the energy scale associated to the higher-d...
متن کاملOn a Dynamical Origin for Fermion Generations
We investigate a proposal to address several outstanding shortcomings of the perturbative Standard Model (SM) of particle physics, specifically a common, dynamical origin for the number of fermion generations, the spectrum of fermion masses and for Charge-Parity (CP) violating processes. The appeal of this proposal is that these features are a manifestation of the nonperturbative sector of the ...
متن کاملAre four-fermion operators relevant for the fermion mass problem?
Four-fermion operators may have large anomalous scaling and become relevant operators in some strongly interacting gauge theories. We present a detailed model which illustrates some of the implications of such operators for the generation of quark and lepton masses. Such operators would originate at high scales where quarks and leptons experience a new strong interaction, but no unbroken techni...
متن کاملStudy of Dynamical Chiral Symmetry Breaking in (2 + 1) Dimensional Abelian Higgs Model
In this paper, we study the dynamical mass generation in the Abelian Higgs model in 2 + 1 dimensions. Instead of adopting the approximations in [Jiang H et al., J. Phys. A 41 2008 255402.], we numerically solve the coupled Dyson–Schwinger Equations (DSEs) for the fermion and gauge boson propagators using a specific truncation for the fermion-photon vertex ansatz and compare our results with the...
