Improving the Power Line Communication Signal-to-Noise Ratio During a Resistive Load Commutation

چکیده
In any cable or power line communications, impulse noise is known to be the most difficult noise to filter. In particular, non periodic asynchronous impulse noise is impossible to predict. Under such noise conditions, the OFDM symbol generally used in PLC is corrupted. To overcome this problem, the signal-to-noise ratio is generally improved by detecting and/or filtering the noise. This leads however to heavy detection and computing time in comparison with the disturbance duration. In this paper, we study the parameters of the noise generated by a load commutation and propose a new approach that consists in controlling the commutation instant of the load. This approach reduces by up to 15 dB the asynchronous impulsive noise emitted by a resistive load in a 40.96-μs typical Homeplug AV OFDM symbol duration. Synchronisation is integrated in electronic commutation system. Results show that the load value does not influence the magnitude of the impulse noise.

The Effects of Multipath on OFDM Systems for Broadband Power-Line Communications a Case of Medium Voltage Channel
Power-line networks are widely used today for broadband data transmission. However, due to multipaths within the broadband power line communication (BPLC) systems owing to stochastic changes in the network load impedances, branches, etc., network or channel capacity performances are affected. This paper attempts to investigate the performance of typical medium voltage channels that uses Orthogo...

متن کاملA Study on the Optimal Receiver Impedance for SNR Maximization in Broadband PLC
We consider the design of the front-end receiver for broadband power line communications. We focus on the design of the input impedance that maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the receiver. We show that the amplitude, rather than the power, of the received signal is important for communication purposes. Furthermore, we show that the receiver impedance impacts the amplitude of the nois...
متن کاملEstimation of harmonic interference parameters of surface-NMR signal using an adaptive method and residual signal power
Surface nuclear magnetic resonance (surface-NMR) method is a well-known tool for determining the water-bearing layers and subsurface resistivity structure. Harmonic interference is an inevitable interference in surface-NMR measurements. Accurate estimation of harmonic interference parameters (i.e., fundamental frequency, phase and amplitude) leads to better retrieval of power-line harmonics and...
متن کاملSNR Maximization at CSI Aware AF Relay
This paper concerns two-hop communication over relay-assisted Block fading channel. It is assumed there is not a direct link between the transmitter and the affiliated destination and the communication occurs in two hops through the use of a relay, where the amplify and forward (AF) strategy is employed at this node. In this case, in a Rayleigh block fading channel, the optimal weight function ...
