چکیده

In geographical databases for navigation, users raise various types of queries concerning route guidance. The most fundamental query is a shortest-route query, but, as dynamical traffic information newly becomes available and the static geographical database of roads itself has grown up further, more flexible queries are required to realize a user-friendly interface meeting the current settings. One important query among them is a detour query which provides information about detours, say listing several candidates for useful detours. This paper first reviews algorithms for the shortest and k shortest paths, and discusses their extensions to detour queries. Algorithms for finding a realistic detour are given. The efficiency and property of the algorithms are examined through experiments on an actual road network. key words: geographical databases, car navigation, shortest paths, detour query

GIS Infrastructure in Japan — Developments and Algorithmic Researches

Some activities of geographical data maintenance and standardization work in GIS infrastructures in Japan are first reviewed. Then, from the viewpoint of geometric and combinatorial algorithmics, applied aspects of GIS are described. Some spatial data mining technique is mentioned first, and then the problem of inferring topological information from digital map and the label placement problem a...

Detours in long-distance migration across the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau: individual consistency and habitat associations

Migratory birds often follow detours when confronted with ecological barriers, and understanding the extent and the underlying drivers of such detours can provide important insights into the associated cost to the annual energy budget and the migration strategies. The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is the most daunting geographical barrier for migratory birds because the partial pressure of oxygen is ...

Transport link scanner: simulating geographic transport network expansion through individual investments

This paper introduces a GIS-based model that simulates the early geographical expansion of transport networks. It progressively adds extensions to a growing network by choosing the most attractive investments from a limited choice set. Attractiveness is defined as a function of variables in which revenue and broader societal benefits may play a role and can be based on empirically underpinned p...

Characterizing International BGP Detours

There are currently no requirements (technical or otherwise) that BGP paths must be contained within national boundaries. Indeed, some paths experience international detours, i.e., originate in one country, cross international boundaries and return to the same country. In most cases these are sensible traffic engineering or peering decisions at ISPs that serve multiple countries. In some cases ...
