Scattering matrix ensemble for time-dependent transport through a chaotic quantum dot

چکیده
Random matrix theory can be used to describe the transport properties of a chaotic quantum dot coupled to leads. In such a description, two approaches have been taken in the literature, considering either the Hamiltonian of the dot or its scattering matrix as the fundamental random quantity of the theory. In this paper, we calculate the first four moments of the distribution of the scattering matrix of a chaotic quantum dot with a time-dependent potential, thus establishing the foundations of a “random scattering matrix approach” for time-dependent scattering. We consider the limit that the number of channels N coupling the quantum dot the reservoirs is large. In that limit, the scattering matrix distribution is almost Gaussian, with small nonGaussian corrections. Our results reproduce and unify results for conductance and pumped current previously obtained in the Hamiltonian approach. We also discuss an application to current noise. Quantum chaotic scattering in time-dependent external fields: random matrix approach
We review the random matrix description of electron transport through open quantum dots, subject to time-dependent perturbations. All characteristics of the current linear in the bias can be expressed in terms of the scattering matrix, calculated for a time-dependent Hamiltonian. Assuming that the Hamiltonian belongs to a Gaussian ensemble of random matrices, we investigate various statistical ...
متن کاملGeneralized circular ensemble of scattering matrices for a chaotic cavity with nonideal leads.
We consider the problem of the statistics of the scattering matrix S of a chaotic cavity (quantum dot), which is coupled to the outside world by non-ideal leads containing N scattering channels. The Hamiltonian H of the quantum dot is assumed to be an M × M hermitian matrix with probability distribution P (H) ∝ det[λ2 + (H − ε)2]−(βM+2−β)/2, where λ and ε are arbitrary coefficients and β = 1, 2...
متن کاملDistribution of the quantum mechanical time-delay matrix for a chaotic cavity
We calculate the joint probability distribution of the Wigner-Smith timedelay matrix Q = −ih̄ S−1∂S/∂ε and the scattering matrix S for scattering from a chaotic cavity with ideal point contacts. Hereto we prove a conjecture by Wigner about the unitary invariance property of the distribution functional P [S(ε)] of energy dependent scattering matrices S(ε). The distribution of the inverse of the e...

We develop a statistical theory that describes quantum-mechanical scattering of a particle by a cavity when the geometry is such that the classical dynamics is chaotic. This picture is relevant to a variety of physical systems, ranging from atomic nuclei to mesoscopic systems and microwave cavities; the main application to be discussed in this contribution is to electronic transport through mes...

Interaction and correlation effects in quantum dots play a fundamental role in defining both their equilibrium and transport properties. Numerical methods are commonly employed to study such systems. In this paper we investigate the numerical calculation of quantum transport of electrons in spherical centered defect InGaAs/AlGaAs quantum dot (SCDQD). The simulation is based on the imaginary time...
