چکیده

Monitoring the respiratory rate (RR) in a fast, inexpensive and continuous manner is of great interest as its direct measurement requires bulky, expensive and inconvenient equipment. In this study, the RR is estimated in an instantaneous manner from the electrocardiogram (ECG) using two ECG-derived respiratory waveforms: the respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) and the modulation of R-peak amplitudes (RPA). An adaptive weighted oscillator-based (W-OSC) frequency tracking algorithm is used to estimate their common frequency. The algorithm is evaluated on a public data set and it is shown that combining RSA and RPA is beneficial to using either alone.

A Robust Fusion Model for Estimating Respiratory Rate from Photoplethysmography and Electrocardiography

Objective: Respiratory rate (RR) estimation algorithms based on the photoplethymogram (PPG) and electrocardiogram (ECG) lack clinical robustness. This is because the PPG and ECG respiratory modulations are dependent on patient physiology, regardless of general signal quality. The present work describes an RR estimation algorithm using respiratory quality indices (RQIs) which assess the presence...

Adaptive Filtering of Heart Rate Signals for an Improved Measure of Cardiac Autonomic Control

In order to provide accurate heart rate variability indices of sympathetic and parasympathetic activity, the low frequency and high frequency components of an RR heart rate signal must be adequately separated. This is not always possible by just applying spectral analysis, as power from the high and low frequency components often leak into their adjacent bands. Furthermore, without the respirat...

Tracking performance of incremental LMS algorithm over adaptive distributed sensor networks

in this paper we focus on the tracking performance of incremental adaptive LMS algorithm in an adaptive network. For this reason we consider the unknown weight vector to be a time varying sequence. First we analyze the performance of network in tracking a time varying weight vector and then we explain the estimation of Rayleigh fading channel through a random walk model. Closed form relations a...

Mathematical Analysis of Optimal Tracking Interval Management for Power Efficient Target Tracking Wireless Sensor Networks

In this paper, we study the problem of power efficient tracking interval management for distributed target tracking wireless sensor networks (WSNs). We first analyze the performance of a distributed target tracking network with one moving object, using a quantitative mathematical analysis. We show that previously proposed algorithms are efficient only for constant average velocity objects howev...

Data Fusion for Improved Respiration Rate Estimation

We present an application of a modified Kalman-Filter (KF) framework for data fusion to the estimation of respiratory rate from multiple physiological sources which is robust to background noise. A novel index of the underlying signal quality of respiratory signals is presented and then used to modify the noise covariance matrix of the KF which discounts the effect of noisy data. The signal qua...
