چکیده

The purpose of this study was to compare the expression of O-acetylated sialic acids on normal colonie epithelial cells to that on primary and metastatic human adenocarcinoma of the colon and rectum. In 24 cases, the relative percentages of biosynthetically labeled non-, mono-, di-, and tri-O-acetylated sialic acids were measured after hydrolytic release, separation, and identification by paper chromatography. In one case, the presence of diand tri-O-acetylated sialic acids was con firmed by fast atom bombardment-mass spectral analysis. Differences were observed in the expression of sialic acids between normal colonie epithelium, "uninvolved" colon mucosa remote to a colonie adenocarci noma, and colonie adenocarcinoma. The levels of monoand Iri-Oacetylated sialic acids accounted for the difference in the ratios of sialic acids expressed between normal and "uninvolved" colonie mucosa, while the total amount of O-acetylation was unchanged. However, no difference was observed in the relative amounts of nonand O-acetylated sialic acids between either fresh and tissue culture-established colon carcinomas, or fresh and tissue culture-established liver metastasis derived from carci noma of the colon. The relative expression of these O-acetylated sialic acids molecules appears to vary according to tissue type. This study suggests that individuals with adenocarcinoma of the colon express a field defect resulting in abnormal ratios of O-acetylated sialic acids.

Molecular Interaction Studies of Ammonium Dihydrogen Phosphate in the Aqueous Solutions of Mono, Di and Triprotic Acids – An Ultrasonic Study

Aqueous solutions of mono, di, and triprotic acids were prepared with different molar percentages (say 10%, 20% and 30%). ammonium dihydrogen phosphate is gradually introduced in the aqueous solutions at different concentrations varied from 0.1M to 0.6M at 303K. Densities, viscosities, and velocity of sound of aqueous solutions are measured and they are used to evaluate the other parameters lik...

Log-Normal and Mono-Sized Particles’ Packing into a Bounded Region

Many systems can be modeled with hard and various size spheres, therefore packing and geometrical structures of such sets are of great importance. In this paper, rigid spherical particles distributed in different sizes are randomly packed in confined spaces, using a parallel algorithm. Mersenne Twister algorithm was used to generate pseudorandom numbers for initial coordination of particles. Di...
