Intelligent Space for Human Centered Robotics

چکیده
Robot systems for supporting human life are desired recently. For that purpose, the robots need to recognize a human living environment that changes dynamically. However, it is difficult to achieve it only with the sensors carried in a stand-alone robot. Then, the research field on the intelligent environments based on the sensor network has been expanding [Sato], [MacDorman]. The intelligent environments generally utilize many intelligent devices, such as computers and sensors in order to improve the performance of the robots. We proposed the intelligent space (iSpace) [Lee, (2002)] as the human-robot coexistent system. The Intelligent Space is designed to achieve a human-centred service by accelerating the physical and psychological interaction between human beings and robots. The iSpace exploits intelligent devices with processing and networking parts in addition to sensing images from colour CCD cameras. The iSpace with vision based intelligent devices achieves a contact-free wide-area location system without an additional burden to users. Vision based iSpace also has the possibility that the further information can be obtained depending

Welcome to the Future - How Naïve Users Intuitively Address an Intelligent Robotics Apartment
The purpose of this Wizard-of-Oz study was to explore the intuitive verbal and non-verbal goal-directed behavior of naïve participants in an intelligent robotics apartment. Participants had to complete seven mundane tasks, for instance, they were asked to turn on the light. Participants were explicitly instructed to consider nonstandard ways of completing the respective tasks. A multi-method ap...
متن کاملMobile Agent Control in Intelligent Space using Reinforcement Learning
Finding the safest shortest path in an unknown environment is a fundamental task in mobile robotics. To emulate the human adaptibility in this field, we can use the Intelligent Space concept. The Intelligent Space is a distributed sensory system, which is the background infrastructure to observe human walking in a limited area. The observation of human beings is applied to create a walkable are...
متن کاملConfiguring an “animated Work Environment”: a User-centered Design Approach
The dramatic shift in the nature, place and organization of working life, as well as the sophistication of information technologies employed in work, have prompted a transdisciplinary team to develop an intelligent environment supporting increasingly digital lifestyles. This “Animated Work Environment” (AWE) is envisioned less as a design product and more as the locus of interaction between peo...
متن کاملTeamwork-Centered Autonomy for Extended Human-Agent Interaction in Space Applications
This paper summarizes our efforts to bring together and extend the best in current theory and technologies for teamwork-centered autonomy for space applications. Traditional planning technologies at the foundation of intelligent robotic systems typically take an autonomycentered approach, with representations, mechanisms, and algorithms that have been designed to ingest a set of goals and outpu...

This paper describes the vision system for a humanoid robot, which includes the mechanism that controls eyeball orientation and blinking process. Along with the mechanism designed, the orientation of the camera, integrated with controlling servomotors. This vision system is a bio-mimic, which is designed to match the size of human eye. This prototype runs face recognition and identifies, match...
