Bounds on Universal Extra Dimensions
نویسندگان
چکیده
We show that the bound from the electroweak data on the size of extra dimensions accessible to all the standard model fields is rather loose. These “universal” extra dimensions could have a compactification scale as low as 300 GeV for one extra dimension. This is because the Kaluza-Klein number is conserved and thus the contributions to the electroweak observables arise only from loops. The main constraint comes from weak-isospin violation effects. We also compute the contributions to the S parameter and the Zbb̄ vertex. The direct bound on the compactification scale is set by CDF and D0 in the few hundred GeV range, and the Run II of the Tevatron will either discover extra dimensions or else it could significantly raise the bound on the compactification scale. In the case of two universal extra dimensions, the current lower bound on the compactification scale depends logarithmically on the ultra-violet cutoff of the higher dimensional theory, but can be estimated to lie between 400 and 800 GeV. With three or more extra dimensions, the cutoff dependence may be too strong to allow an estimate. ∗e-mail: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

Bounds on Kaluza-Klein excitations of the SM vector bosons from electroweak tests
Within a minimal extension of the SM in 4 + 1 dimensions, we study how Kaluza Klein excitations of the SM gauge bosons affect the electroweak precision observables. Asymmetries in Z decays provide the dominant bound on the compactification scale M of the extra dimension. If the higgs is so light that will be discovered at LEP2, we find the following 95%C.L. bounds: M > 3.5TeV (if the higgs live...
متن کاملUniversal Extra Dimensions and Kaluza-Klein Bound States
We study the bounds states of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) excitations of quarks in models of Universal Extra Dimensions. Such bound states may be detected at future lepton colliders in the cross section for the pair-production of KKquarks near threshold. For typical values of model parameters, we find the “KK-quarkonia” have widths in the 10-100 MeV range, and production cross sections of order a few...
متن کاملBounds on Extra Dimensions from Binary Pulsars
Evidence for gravitational radiation from binary pulsars places constraints on properties of “large” extra dimensions. The size of these extra dimensions must exceed about 37 AU for gravitational radiation to be emitted. Subject headings: string theory — gravitation — relativity Typeset using REVTEX
متن کاملWeakly Warped Extra Dimensions and SN1987A
The neutrino pulse from SN1987A provides one of the most rigourous constraints on models of extra dimensions. Previously, calculations have been done to bound the size of these extra dimensions in the case when the metric was factorizable. Here we consider the case of 2 ‘weakly warped’ extra dimensions. We find that even though weak warping seems only to affect the zero mode this can have a mea...
متن کاملCosmological bounds on large extra dimensions from non - thermal production of Kaluza - Klein modes
The existing cosmological constraints on theories with large extra dimensions rely on the thermal production of the Kaluza-Klein modes of gravitons and radions in the early Universe. Successful inflation and reheating, as well as baryogenesis, typically requires the existence of a TeV-scale field in the bulk, most notably the inflaton. The non-thermal production of KK modes with masses of order...
