چکیده

Rainfall simulation experiments on road batters in a forest catchment in New South Wales, Australia, demonstrated the limits of small scale erosion studies. Comparable erodibility studies were carried out on road surfaces, road batters constructed of soil, bedrock and unconsolidated materials and the forest surfaces. There was no significant difference in sediment loss between any type of site, nor was there any significant relationship between sediment loss and either slope, materials or vegetation cover. The difficulties in obtaining any relationships between sediment loss, slope, cover and material type have implications for the usefulness of models which attempt to predict soil losses, as well as for future experimental work of this type.

The Effect of Soil Salinity and Sodicity on Soil Erodibility, Sediment Transport and Downstream Water Quality

There is an abundance of literature on many aspects of soil salinity and sodicity, and the impact of increased salt and sodium on properties, behaviour, management and productivity of soils. However the impact of sodicity on erosion and soil erodibility and sediment transport has received less attention. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of changing soil salinity and sodicity...

Identifying erosive periods with RUSLE factors in Pyrenean fields

Papers published in Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Discussions are under open-access review for the journal Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Abstract The Mediterranean environment is characterized by strong temporal variations in rainfall volume and intensity, soil moisture and vegetation cover along the year. These factors play a key role on soil erosion. The aim of this work is to ide...

Reopening abandoned forest roads in northern Idaho, USA: quantification of runoff, sediment concentration, infiltration, and interrill erosion parameters.

This study measured runoff and sediment concentration from the tire track and from the non-tire track to determine infiltration, interrill erodibility, and vegetative cover impacts of reopening an abandoned forest road. Runoff was lowest on the non-track portion of the abandoned road and highest on the reopened road. Sediment concentrations were significantly higher on the reopened road. Increa...

Partitioning total erosion on unpaved roads into splash and hydraulic components: The roles of interstorm surface preparation and dynamic erodibility

Field rainfall simulation experiments at two sites are used to partition sediment transport on unpaved roads into splash and hydraulic erosion components. Rain splash processes contributed 38–45% of total sediment output, with instantaneous contributions being variable throughout 60-min high-energy events. For lowand medium-magnitude rainstorms, splash erosion on roads is initially controlled b...

Effect of Gypsum and Polyacrylamide Application on Erodibility of an Acid Kunigami Mahji Soil

Acid soil covers one third of the world arable lands. Excess Al and H in acid soil are not favorable for most plants. Calcium carbonates and gypsum (CaSO4) are used to improve chemical status of the acid soil. However, application of Ca cation may sometimes enhance dispersion and deteriorate soil physical properties. Presenting study discusses effect of non-ionic polyacrylamide (PAM) applicatio...
