Multi-stream video transport over DiffServ wireless LANS

چکیده
This paper presents a new transport scheme for embedded video streams over wireless local area networks. It introduces a differentiated service (DiffServ) solution for video streaming over mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). It employs the concept of single-application multiple stream (SAMS) that can effectively take the advantages of both DiffServ network and multi-layer or progressive source coding techniques. The approach is to preferentially improve the transport quality of important data substreams under the of a fixed network throughput. The 3D-SPIHT subband video coder is used in generating embedded source data streams. This video coder features high compression efficiency. It produces fully embedded bitstreams which can be easily segmented into multiple data streams with different QoS characteristics. In wireless network, a class based queuing (CBQ) mechanism is implemented to provide DiffServ for these different data streams. The integrated source coding and networking system prioritizes the layers for lower resolutions, so that they will experience less delay or packet loss in case of congestion or link breakage. Simulations have been conducted on the network simulator (ns-2), and significant improvements over traditional wireless LAN transport schemes have been observed.

The Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...

The growth of wireless LANs has brought the expectation for high-bitrate streaming video to wireless PCs. However, it remains unknown how to best adapt video to wireless channel characteristics as they degrade. This paper presents results from experiments that stream commercial video over a wireless campus network and analyze performance across application, network and wireless link layers. Som...

The rapid and unprecedented increase in the heterogeneity of multimedia networks and devices emphasizes the need for scalable and adaptive video solutions for both coding and transmission purposes. However, in general, there is an inherent trade-off between the level of scalability and the quality of scalable video streams. In other words, the higher the bandwidth variation, the lower the overa...

Video transport over wireless Local Area Networks (LANs) usually suffers from signal fading, noise interference, and network congestion, leading to time-varying packet loss rate and fluctuating effective bandwidth. We propose in this paper an adaptive error control scheme to adaptively insert error-resilience features into a compressed video in the media gateway which serves roaming clients. Ou...

This paper seeks to establish under what conditions (mobility, network size, wireless channel) multi-source video streaming is feasible across a wireless Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET). Overlay networks with multiple sources have proven to be robust, distributed solutions to multimedia transport, including streaming. To achieve video streaming over a VANET overlay, this paper introduces a spa...
