چکیده

Background. Percutaneous retrograde nontransseptal balloon mitral valvuloplasty is a new technique developed in our institution for opening a stenotic mitral valve. This technique is based on a new, externally steerable cardiac catheter that enters the left atrium retrogradely via the left ventricle. Methods and Results. The technique was used in 86 consecutive patients (18 men and 68 women; mean age, 51±11 years). Dilatation of the stenotic mitral valve was achieved in 85 of the 86 patients. After the procedure, mitral valve area increased from 0.92+±0.22 to 2.1490.54 cm2 and transmitral gradient decreased from 16+6 to 5±2 mm Hg. Major complications, such as cardiac perforation, embolic events,

Retrograde nontransseptal balloon mitral valvuloplasty: immediate results and intermediate long-term outcome in 441 cases--a multicenter experience.

OBJECTIVES Our aim was to present the immediate and intermediate long-term results of the application of retrograde nontransseptal balloon mitral valvuloplasty (RNBMV) in four cooperating centers from Greece and India. BACKGROUND RNBMV is a purely transarterial method of balloon valvuloplasty, developed with the aim to avoid complications associated with transseptal catheterization. Only sing...

SHORT TERM CLINICAL OUTCOME OF PERCUTANEOUS BALLOON MITRAL VALVULOPLASTY VERSUS SURGICAL CLOSED MITRAL COMMISSUROTOMY

BaIlon mitral valvuloplasty and closed mitral valve conunissurotomy were performed in 450 and 127 patients, respectively. Also, 254 patients with severe mitral stenosis were enrolled in a prospective randomized trial comparing the two procedures. Immediately after balloon mitral valvuloplasty, mean left atrial pressure was 11.38±3.54 mmHg, transmitral valve gradient was 1.8±2 mmHg, and mit...

Immediate and Short-term Follow-Up of Aortic Coarctation Balloon Angioplasty and Stenting

Background Aortic Coarcatation (CoA) is one of the congenital heart diseases with the rate of 5-8% of Coronary heart diseases(CHDs). Balloon angioplasty is now one of the effective way of treatment for CoA, native or Re-coarctation (Re-CoA). We aimed to assess the immediate, and short term response to angioplasty and stenting, and also complications. Materials and Methods Balloon angioplasty wi...

Which patients benefit from percutaneous mitral balloon valvuloplasty? Prevalvuloplasty and postvalvuloplasty variables that predict long-term outcome.

BACKGROUND Percutaneous mitral balloon valvuloplasty (PMV) results in good immediate results, particularly in patients with echocardiographic scores (Echo-Sc) < or =8. However, which variables relate to long-term outcome is unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS We report the immediate and long-term clinical follow-up (mean, 4.2+/-3.7 years; range, 0.5 to 15) of 879 patients who underwent 939 PMV proce...
