Sensitivity Analysis of Combined Software and Hardware Performance Models: Open Queueing Networks
نویسنده
چکیده
Contemporary approaches to software performance engineering su er from weak integration with the design process and provide little feedback to developers. An approach to software performance modelling is presented, based on annotating design speci cations with performance parameters and operational analysis of queueing networks representing the hardware. Analytical sensitivity analysis is provided to 1) point out where model re nement and parameter capture e ort should be focused, and 2) suggest optimisations in the design speci cation. Sensitivities are obtained by di erentiation of the combined software (workload) and hardware performance model. Only open queueing networks are considered at the hardware level. The results are validated, and it is pointed out that further work is particularly needed in the areas of dynamic software performance modelling and distributed systems.

Applying BCMP multi-class queueing networks for the performance evaluation of hierarchical and modular software systems
Queueing networks with multiple classes of customers play a fundamental role for evaluating the performance of both software and hardware architectures. The main strength of product-form models, in particular of BCMP queueing networks, is that they combine a flexible formalism with efficient analysis techniques and solution algorithms. In this paper we provide an algorithm that starting from a ...

This paper describes the MQNA Markovian Queueing Networks Analyser, a software tool to model and obtain the stationary solution of a large class of Queueing Networks. MQNA can directly solve open and closed product-form queueing networks using classical algorithms. For finite capacity queueing models, MQNA generates Markovian description in the Stochastic Automata Networks (SAN) and Stochastic ...

متن کاملIntegrating Software and Hardware Performance Models Using Hierarchical Queeing Petri Nets
This paper introduces a new approach for the construction of performance models of complex systems integrating software and hardware. Software components are speciied using hierarchical coloured GSPNs which extend the well established coloured GSPNs. Hardware components are composed of basic queues taken from queueing networks. Integration of queues into hierarchical GSPNs facilitates the speci...
