Inhibition by fusicoccin of germination of pea seeds.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Fusicoccin inhibits the germination of pea (Pisum sativum L. cv Progress 9) seeds by decreasing the growth of the embryonal axis and by stimulating the fresh weight increase of the cotyledons. The growth of isolated embryonal axes in the presence of sucrose and KCl is stimulated by fusicoccin. The effect of fusicoccin on the seeds is not counteracted by sucrose and KCl. Fusicoccin promotes preferentially in the cotyledons a hyperpolarization of the transmembrane electric potential and an increase in the uptake capacity, suggesting the reinforcement of the sink strength of the cotyledons in comparison with the one of the embryonal axis and therefore the inhibition of translocation from the cotyledons of some substance necessary for the growth of the embryonal axis.

Effects of Salinity, Temperature, Light and Dormancy Regulating Chemicals on Seed Germination of Salsola Drummondii Ulbr
Salsola drummondii Ulbr. is a perennial halophyte found in salt deserts of southern Balochistan, Pakistan. Experiments were conducted to study the effects of salinity (0, 200, 400, 600, 800 and 1000 mM NaCl), thermoperiod (10/20, 15/25, 20/30 and 25/35C), light (12-h photoperiod and dark) and dormancy regulating chemicals (DRCs) on germination, recovery and viability of the seeds of S. drummond...
متن کاملChanges in the Levels of Calmodulin and of a Calmodulin Inhibitor in the Early Phases of Radish (Raphanus sativus L.) Seed Germination: Effects of Aba and Fusicoccin.
An inhibitor of Ca(2+)-calmodulin (Cam)-dependent brain phosphodiesterase was present in the soluble fraction of embryo axes from ungerminated radish (Raphanus sativus L.) seeds. This inhibitor is a Ca(2+)-dependent, Cam-binding protein; in fact: (a) its effect was strongly reduced by treatment with proteases; (b) the inhibition was counteracted by Cam but not by Ca(2+); (c) on gel filtration i...
متن کامل16-O-Demethyl Fusicoccin J and Its 3-Epimer from Fusicoccum amygdali, and Their Seed Germination-stimulating Activity in the Presence of Abscisic Acid.
Our search for new metabolites biosynthetically related to fusicoccin with potent plant growth-stimulating activity from the culture filtrate of Fusicoccum amygdali F6 resulted in the isolation of a new derivative of fusicoccin J, as well as fusicoccin J and 16-O-demethyl 3-epifusicoccin J. Its structure was analyzed by 600 MHz NMR spectrometry and identified as 16-O-demethyl fusicoccin J. The ...
متن کاملEffect of Germination Regulating Chemicals on Seed Germination of Halogeton Glomeratus for Alleviation of Salinity Stress
Halogeton glomeratus (Bieb.) C.A. Mey (Chenopodiaceae) is an annual forb that is widely distributed in mixed desert shrub, salt desert shrub and pinyon-juniper communities of northern Utah. Halogeton glomeratus seeds gave only 78% germination in distilled water. Fusicoccin (FC) had some effects in partially alleviating innate dormancy while other chemicals had no effect. Seed germination was in...
متن کاملAction of plant growth regulators and salinity on seed germination of Ceratoides lanata
Ceratoides lanata (Pursh) J.T. Howell is a shrub with numerous annual branchlets from the family Chenopodiaceae and is widely distributed in brackish water playas of northern Utah. Seeds had no dormancy, and about 90% of the seeds germinated in nonsaline control. Seed germination decreased with the increase in salinity, and more than 10% of the seeds germinated at 900 mmol/L NaCl. Almost all se...
