Immunocompetence Traits and Their Inheritance Pattern in Kadaknath Native Chicken

چکیده
Economics of poultry production can be improved by reducing input on health care (major investment) and increasing production. It necessitates evaluation and exploitation of immunocompetence traits of germplasm. An investigation was carried out on 174 Kadaknath native chickens, maintained at this institute to evaluate immunocompetence profile. Data on three traits viz., antibody response to sheep erythrocytes and serum levels of lysozyme and IgG, were analyzed by least squares analysis of variance taking sire as random and sex as fixed effects. Sire had significant effect on lysozyme (P< 0.05) and IgG (P< 0.08), but sex on none. Haemagglutination titre and lysozyme and IgG levels averaged 7.93± 0.24, 5.07± 0.29g/ml and 12.15± 0.48 mg/ml, respectively. Heritability ranged from medium to high but had higher standard errors. Phenotypic correlations among traits were very low and non-significant. Haemagglutination titre had highly negative genetic correlations with lysozyme level but highly positive with IgG level. The study demonstrated relatively higher immunocompetence profile in Kadaknath chicken. It was also inferred that improvement in general immunocompetence could be achieved by selection for combination of different facets of host’s immune systems.

Comparative Assessment of Carcass Traits in Indigenous Chicken
A study was conducted to find out the differences in carcass traits among the Cobb-400, Vanraja, Aseel and Kadaknath Breeds of chicken. Cobb-400 showed significantly (P<0.05) higher live weight and dressing percentage than indigenous breeds (Vanrja, Aseel and Kadaknath) at the age of six week. Hot carcass weight as well as cold carcass weight were significantly (P<0.05) higher in comparison to ...

The objective of this study was to search for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-type polymorphisms in the dopamine D1 receptor in West Azerbaijani native chicken and look for their association with egg production and body weight traits of chickens by polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP). For this purpose 180 blood samples were taken from nativ...

متن کاملInternal Traits of Eggs and Their Relationship to Shank Feathering in Chicken Using Principal Component Analysis
Chicken eggs represent an important source of protein to the growing human population and also supply repositories of unique genes that could be used worldwide. The inheritance of shank feathering trait is dominant upon non-feathering shank trait in chicken which is based on two factors: pti-1L and pti-1B that are located on Chromosomes 13, 15, and 24. Using 185 fertile eggs collected from two ...

In this study, susceptibility to H5N1 virus infection was studied in two Indian native chicken breeds viz. Kadaknath and Aseel (Peela) and an Indian synthetic broiler strain (Synthetic dam line (SDL-IC). Fifty birds from each genetic group were infected intra-nasally with 1000 EID50 of a highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (HPAIV) strain A/chicken/Navapur/India/7972/ 06 (H5N1) and observed ...
