A 47-year-old woman visited our hospital complaining of recently developed back pain. Complete blood cell counts cells. Her bone marrow (A) (H&E, ×400) was packed with blasts, which were positive for CD34, CD19, CD20, CD10, and TdT. The diagnosis of precursor B cell lymphoblastic leukemia was made and the patient subsequently underwent induction chemotherapy. At 3 weeks after induction chemotherapy, the bone marrow was replaced by eosinophilic granular ghosts of many dead cells, and some hemorrhagic foci were noted (B). This indicated that extensive marrow necrosis had occurred probably due to vascular insufficiency during the post-chemotherapeutic period. After 5 months of continuous chemotherapy, the follow-up bone marrow biopsy revealed robust bone remodeling as well as hematopoietic regeneration (C). Of note, there was extensive fibrous scarring around the pinkish osteoid seam (arrow), suggesting metaplastic bone regeneration during bone repair. These findings may mimic hyperparathyroid bone diseases showing paratrabecular fibrosis. Careful attention to the contour and history of bone necrosis is helpful in interpreting a post-necrotic healing structure in an area of previous bone marrow necrosis.

Bone Marrow Necrosis: Frequency and clinicopathilogical Findings in Marrow Biopsyes
Background and Objectives: Bone marrow necrosis (BMN) is a rare and ominous complication of wide variety of diseases including hematologic malignancy. This study was performed to identify frequency and the underlying associated diseases of marrow necrosis. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, totally 850 bone marrow trephine biopsies related to living patients at the Pathology ...
متن کاملFalse Negativity of Tc-99m Labeled Sodium Phytate Bone Marrow Imaging Under the Effect of G-CSF Prescription in Aplastic Anemia: A Case Report
Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) is a hematopoietic cytokine which controls the differentiation and growth of hematopoietic cells in the bone marrow. We report a severe aplastic anemia (SAA) patient with false-negative 99mTc sodium phytate bone marrow imaging findings under concurrent G-CSF therapy. The first bone marrow imaging showed a normal bone marrow activity. However, the bo...

The resultant cells were then plated at differentiating condi...
متن کاملThe Role of Mast Cells in Parathyroid Bone Disease
Chronic hyperparathyroidism (HPT) is a common cause of metabolic bone disease. These studies investigated the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms responsible for the detrimental actions of elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) on the skeleton. Bone biopsies from hyperparathyroid patients revealed an association between parathyroid bone disease and increased numbers of bone marrow mast cel...
متن کاملThe Efficacy of Implant of Octacalcium Phos-phate in Combination with Bone Matrix Gelatin on Bone Regeneration in Skull Defects in Rat
Background: In several conditions we have face cranial bone defects. Reconstruction of these defects remains one of the most challenging problems encountered by craniofacial surgeons. Objective: To evaluate bone repair in cranial bone defects by use of an implant made of octacalcium phosphate in combination with bone matrix gelatin (OCP/BMG). Methods: We used 40, 5–6-week-old male Sprague-Dawle...
