Airway management in difficult mask ventilation with difficult intubation – A case report

چکیده
Airway management difficulties continue to be problematic to the anaesthesiologists as it is the major cause for anaesthesia related morbidity and mortality. Difficult airway includes difficult intubation (DI), difficult mask ventilation (DMV) or both. Most of the anaesthesiologists concentrate on predicting difficult intubation, but give very little attention to difficult mask ventilation. Unpredicted difficult mask ventilation can be life threatening to a patient with difficult intubation as it may result into can’t ventilate – can’t intubate scenario. To secure the airway in predicted difficult mask ventilation with difficult intubation, use of surgical airway can be minimized by implementing the skillful use of alternative airway device – the fiberoptic technique.

Management of the difficult Airway
The appropriate airway management is the important point during the anesthesia. For it dose, ‎taking history, physical examination (head and neck, mandible, mouth opening, neck ‎movements …) must be done completely and they are helpful in estimating difficult ‎intubation.‎ It is necessary to note that one case from every ‎‏5000‏‎ cases of anesthesia, not o...

Facial injuries due to bear mauling or run-over accidents cause severe disfigurement of face requiring extensive reconstruction. While managing these injuries, close association with the airway and shared airway with the surgeon are important concerns for the anaesthesiologists. And airway management in such patients becomes a challenge for them because bony injuries and soft tissue deformities...

متن کاملUnanticipated difficult airway in anesthetized patients: prospective validation of a management algorithm.
BACKGROUND Management strategies conceived to improve patient safety in anesthesia have rarely been assessed prospectively. The authors undertook a prospective evaluation of a predefined algorithm for unanticipated difficult airway management. METHODS After a 2-month period of training in airway management, 41 anesthesiologists were asked to follow a predefined algorithm for management in the...

BACKGROUND A critical aspect of safe general anesthesia is providing adequate ventilation and oxygenation. Failed endotracheal intubation and inadequate ventilation with insufficient oxygenation may lead to serious complications, even death. Anesthesiologists rarely encounter unexpected difficult airway problems in daily routine. Management of an unexpectedly difficult airway consists of laryng...
