Cavity Resonators - Theory & Possibilities for MRI

چکیده

Introduction The majority of RF coils are formed from inductive lengths of copper in various geometries, which are tuned to resonance by incorporation of appropriate capacitors. Volume coils are based on geometries which have a (co)-sinusoidal variation in azimuthal current distribution to produce a homogeneous transverse RF field [1]. An alternative approach is to design a cavity resonator, in which the resonance frequency is determined by the material properties (in particular the relative permittivity) and the dimensions of the structure. Advantages of such designs include simplicity and robustness, the lack of multiple lumped elements, and very low losses. Such devices have found much use in electron paramagnetic resonance [2], but only with the advent of very high magnetic fields for human/animal/biochemical studies have the dimensions of cavity resonators become relevant for magnetic resonance. Historically, it is interesting to note that the probe used in the very first NMR experiments was a cavity resonator [3].

Thermoelastic Damping and Frequency Shift in Kirchhoff Plate Resonators Based on Modified Couple Stress Theory With Dual-Phase-Lag Model

The present investigation deals with study of thermoelastic damping and frequency shift of Kirchhoff plate resonators by using generalized thermoelasticity theory of dual-phase-lag model. The basic equations of motion and heat conduction equation are written with the help of Kirchhoff-Love plate theory and dual phase lag model. The analytical expressions for thermoelastic damping and frequency ...

Theory of energy evolution in laser resonators with saturated gain and non-saturated loss.

Theory of the energy evolution in laser resonators with saturated gain and non-saturated loss is revisited. An explicit analytical expression for the output energy/average power in terms of the gain saturation energy, cavity loss and small signal gain parameters is derived for a ring cavity configuration.

Thermo-Elastic Damping in Nano-beam Resonators Based on Nonlocal Theory

In this article thermoelastic damping in nano-beam resonators is investigated based on nonlocal theory of elasticity and the Euler-Bernoulli beam assumptions. The governing equation of deflection of the beam is obtained from shear and moment resultants and stress–strain relationship of the nonlocal elasticity model and also the governing equations of thermoelastic damping are established by usi...

Damping and Frequency Shift in Microscale Modified Couple Stress Thermoelastic Plate Resonators

In this paper, the vibrations of thin plate in modified couple stress thermoelastic medium by using Kirchhoff- Love plate theory has been investigated. The thermoelastic damping of micro-beam resonators is analyzed by using the normal mode a...

Bloch cavity solitons in nonlinear resonators with intracavity photonic crystals.

We predict a novel type of cavity solitons, Bloch cavity solitons, existing in nonlinear resonators with the refractive index modulated in both longitudinal and transverse directions and for both focusing (at normal diffraction) and defocusing (at anomalous diffraction) nonlinearities. We develop a modified mean-field theory and analyze the properties of these novel cavity solitons demonstratin...
