A Doubly Exponentially Crumbled Cake

چکیده
We consider the following cake cutting game: Alice chooses a set P of n points in the square (cake) [0, 1], where (0, 0) ∈ P ; Bob cuts out n axis-parallel rectangles with disjoint interiors, each of them having a point of P as the lower left corner; Alice keeps the rest. It has been conjectured that Bob can always secure at least half of the cake. This remains unsettled, and it is not even known whether Bob can get any positive fraction independent of n. We prove that if Alice can force Bob’s share to tend to zero, then she must use very many points; namely, to prevent Bob from gaining more than 1/r of the cake, she needs at least 2 Ω(r) points.

Fairness and False-Name Manipulations in Randomized Cake Cutting
Cake cutting has been recognized as a fundamental model in fair division, and several envy-free cake cutting algorithms have been proposed. Recent works from the computer science field proposed novelmechanisms for cake cutting, whose approaches are based on the theory of mechanism design; these mechanisms are strategy-proof, i.e., no agent has any incentive to misrepresent her utility function,...
متن کاملDeterminizing Monitors for HML with Recursion
We examine the determinization of monitors for HML with recursion. We demonstrate that every monitor is equivalent to a deterministic one, which is at most doubly exponential in size with respect to the original monitor. When monitors are described as CCS-like processes, this doubly exponential bound is optimal. When (deterministic) monitors are described as finite automata (as their LTS), then...

متن کاملStudies on the metabolizable energy content of ground full-fat flaxseed fed in mash, pellet, and crumbled diets assayed with birds of different ages.
Four experiments were carried out to determine the AMEn of ground flaxseed in chickens of different ages and to study the effect of feeding flaxseed in pelleted or crumbled diets on flaxseed AMEn. A corn-soybean meal basal diet was prepared, in which the energy-yielding ingredients were substituted with ground flaxseed at 5, 10, 15, or 20%. Experiments 1, 2, and 3 consisted of these five dietar...
متن کاملAssessment of postcrumble addition of limestone and calcium-specific appetite in broilers during the starter phase1
A study was done to determine whether broilers can regulate Ca intake when limestone is provided separately or mixed with a crumbled feed of variable Ca and P content, and the influence of this on performance and apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of Ca and P (AIDP). Twelve crumbled diets were fed from 10 to 20 d of age (8 replicates, 8 broilers/replicate). Diets A to D contained 0.28% nonphyta...
