The Distribution of the First Eigenvalue Spacing at the Hard Edge of the Laguerre Unitary Ensemble

چکیده
Abstract. The distribution function for the first eigenvalue spacing in the Laguerre unitary ensemble of finite rank random matrices is found in terms of a Painlevé V system, and the solution of its associated linear isomonodromic system. In particular it is characterised by the polynomial solutions to the isomonodromic equations which are also orthogonal with respect to a deformation of the Laguerre weight. In the scaling to the hard edge regime we find an analogous situation where a certain Painlevé III system and its associated linear isomonodromic system characterise the scaled distribution. We undertake extensive analytical studies of this system and use this knowledge to accurately compute the distribution and its moments for various values of the parameter a. In particular choosing a = ±1/2 allows the first eigenvalue spacing distribution for random real orthogonal matrices to be computed.

Joint Distribution of the First and Second Eigenvalues at the Soft Edge of Unitary Ensembles
The density function for the joint distribution of the first and second eigenvalues at the soft edge of unitary ensembles is found in terms of a Painlevé II transcendent and its associated isomonodromic system. As a corollary, the density function for the spacing between these two eigenvalues is similarly characterised. The particular solution of Painlevé II that arises is a double shifted Bäckl...

The distribution function for the first eigenvalue spacing in the Laguerre unitary ensemble of finite size may be expressed in terms of a solution of the fifth Painlevé transcendent. The generating function of a certain discontinuous linear statistic of the Laguerre unitary ensemble can similarly be expressed in terms of a solution of the fifth Painlevé equation. The methodology used to derive ...

Application of the τ-function theory of Painlevé equations to random matrices: Okamoto has obtained a sequence of τ-functions for the PVI system expressed as a double Wron-skian determinant based on a solution of the Gauss hypergeometric equation. Starting with integral solutions of the Gauss hypergeometric equation, we show that the determinant can be re-expressed as multi-dimensional integral...
متن کاملInterpolation between Airy and Poisson statistics for unitary chiral non-Hermitian random matrix ensembles
We consider a family of chiral non-Hermitian Gaussian random matrices in the unitarily invariant symmetry class. The eigenvalue distribution in this model is expressed in terms of Laguerre polynomials in the complex plane. These are orthogonal with respect to a non-Gaussian weight including a modified Bessel function of the second kind, and we give an elementary proof for this. In the large n l...
متن کاملPainlevé transcendent evaluation of the scaled distribution of the smallest eigenvalue in the Laguerre orthogonal and symplectic ensembles
The scaled distribution of the smallest eigenvalue in the Laguerre orthogonal and symplectic ensembles is evaluated in terms of a Painlevé V transcendent. This same Painlevé V transcendent is known from the work of Tracy and Widom, where it has been shown to specify the scaled distribution of the smallest eigenvalue in the Laguerre unitary ensemble. The starting point for our calculation is the...
