The purpose of the 5 th Annual Darden International Finance Conference, organized jointly with the Journal of Financial Economics, was to examine issues related to capital raising in emerging economies. The eight papers in this special issue were selected from the conference program and reflect the substantial breadth and practical importance of research in this area. While the papers often draw attention to issues unique to international financing, they all provide insights and new perspectives on traditional studies and long-standing debates.
