Integrating CDU, FCC and product blending models into refinery planning

چکیده
The accuracy of using linear models for crude distillation unit (CDU), fluidize-bed catalytic cracker (FCC) and product blending in refinery planning has been debated for decades. Inaccuracy caused by nonrigorous linear models may reduce the overall profitability or sacrifice product quality. On the other hand, using rigorous process models for refinery planning imposes unnecessary complications on the problem because these models lengthen the solution time and often hide critical issues and parameters for profit improvements. To overcome these problems, this paper presents a refinery planning model that utilizes simplified empirical nonlinear process models with considerations for crude characteristics, products’ yields and qualities, etc. The proposed model can be easily solved with much higher accuracy than a traditional linear model. This paper will present how the CDU, FCC and product blending models are formulated and applied to refinery planning. Several case studies are used to illustrate the features of the refinery-planning model proposed.

Plant-wide Scheduling and Marginal Value Analysis for a Refinery
This paper presents an integrated refinery scheduling model and its applications for a refinery located in Jiujiang, Jiangxi, P.R.China. The model integrates a crude oil unloading and storage area, a refining area, a blending area and a product storage area of the refinery. The scheduling model can be applied for optimizing the operation, configuration and production schedule of the refinery. T...
متن کاملSupply Chain Optimization of Petroleum Refinery Complexes
Production planning is a very important step in managing the operation of a single refinery and their complexes. Despite its significance, few contributions have been found in literature and the existing ones rely on linear models. Pinto et al. (Comp. Chem. Engng. 24, 2259-2276, 2000), presented a superstructure that represents a general topology and allows the implementation of nonlinear proce...
متن کاملRobust Scheduling of Crude Oil Operations under Demand and Ship Arrival Uncertainty
Scheduling of crude oil operations is an important and complex routine task in a refinery. It involves crude oil unloading, tank allocation, storage and blending of crudes, and CDU charging. Optimal crude oil scheduling can increase profits by exploiting cheaper but poor quality crudes, minimizing crude changeovers, avoiding ship demurrage, and managing crude inventory optimally. In our previou...
متن کاملShort-term Scheduling of Refinery Operations Based on a Continuous Time Formulation
The problem addressed in this work is to develop a comprehensive mathematical programming model for the efficient scheduling of oil-refinery operations. Our approach is first to decompose the overall problem spatially into three domains: the crude-oil unloading and blending, the production-unit operations and the product blending and delivery. In particular, the first problem involves the crude...
متن کاملProcurement planning in oil refining industries considering blending operations
This paper addresses procurement planning in oil refining, which has until now only had limited attention in the literature. We introduce a mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model and develop a novel two-stage solution approach, which aims at computational efficiency while addressing the problems due to discrepancies between a non-linear and a linearized formulation. The proposed mode...
