Transient power control in dynamic positioning - governor feedforward and dynamic thrust allocation

چکیده
A thrust allocation algorithm with capability to assist the power management system on a vessel with diesel-electric propulsion has recently been proposed. In the work presented here, the results show that the use of this thrust allocation algorithm produces a signi cant improvement in the stability of the electric bus frequency in the presence of large power load variations, as long as those load variations are small compared to the kinetic energy of the vessel at low speed. Further reduction in the frequency variations are achieved through use of a feedforward signal to the diesel engine governors, which enables them to react to surges in power consumption before they a ect the frequency on the electric bus.

Quadratic Programming Thrust Allocation and Management for Dynamic Positioning Ships
To solve the complex thrust allocation problems of dynamic positioning ship with azimuth thrusters, the quadratic programming thrust allocation and management system was built. The power optimal thrust allocation was formulated as a quadratic programming problem by the linear treatments of inequality constraints and the optimal solution could be found in a finite amount of time. And some influe...
متن کاملOptimal Thrust Allocation Methods for Dynamic Positioning of Ships
The first Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems emerged in the 1960’s from the need for deep water drilling by the offshore oil and gas industry, as conventional mooring systems, like a jack-up barge or an anchored rig, can only be used in shallow waters. GustoMSC has been developing DP drill ships since the early 1970’s and it is still one of their core businesses. DP systems automatically control ...
متن کاملOptimization-based control of diesel-electric ships in dynamic positioning
Recent advances in computer hardware and algorithms make it possible to consider more computationally demanding control methods, allowing more effective exploitation of the equipment under control. This thesis explores new ways of controlling ships (or other marine vessels) that are designed to keep a predetermined position and heading automatically exclusively by the means of their thrusters –...
متن کاملDynamic Model for Thrust Generation of Marine Propellers
Mathematical models of propeller thrust and torque are traditionally based on steady state thrust and torque characteristics obtained in model basin or cavitation tunnel tests. Experimental results showed that these quasi steady state models do not accurately describe the transient phenomena in a thruster. A recently published dynamic model was based on the experimental observations. Describing...

In order to study the performance of dynamic positioning system during S-lay operations, dynamic positioning system is simulated with the hull-stinger-pipe coupling effect. The roller of stinger is simulated by the generalized elastic contact theory. The stinger is composed of Morrison members. Force on pipe is calculated by lumped mass method. Time domain of fully coupled barge model is analyz...
