چکیده
The association of ascites, hydrothorax and struma ovarii has been previously reported in the literature. This case is added to the literature describing a variant of Meigs' syndrome, or pseudo Meigs' syndrome. A discussion of the origin of ascitic fluid illustrates how little is known about these conditions as well as the importance of their careful differential diagnosis.

Unilateral massive hydrothorax in a gynecologic patient with pseudo-Meigs' syndrome -A case report-
Pseudo-Meigs' syndrome is characterized by the presence of a benign ovarian tumor associated with ascites and a right-sided hydrothorax. The major problem associated with pseudo-Meigs' syndrome is the respiratory distress caused by a giant mass in the peritoneal space, massive ascites and pleural effusion. Even if there are no respiratory problems prior to surgery, potential respiratory dysfunc...

cologic origin is sometimes similar to that of disseminated malignant neoplasms (1). This is usually the case in patients with Meigs or pseudo-Meigs syndrome. Meigs syndrome was defined in 1954 as a fibroma or fibromalike tumor associated with hydrothorax and ascites, which resolved on removal of the tumor. Pseudo-Meigs syndrome has an identical clinical constellation but the tumor types which ...
متن کاملThe use of laparoscopic rectopexy to manage rectal prolapse with Pseudo‐Meigs’ syndrome in a 64‐year‐old female: a case report
We report a rare case of rectal prolapse with Pseudo-Meigs' syndrome in which laparoscopic bilateral oophorectomy and rectopexy were performed simultaneously and resulted in improved quality of life due to the loss of ascites and the repair of rectal prolapse. Laparoscopic surgery is feasible for rectal prolapse with Pseudo-Meigs' syndrome.

In contrast, pseudo-Meigs' syndrome is defined as the co-existence of other ovarian or pelvic tumors, ascites, and pleural effusion. In Meigs' and pseudo-Meigs' syndromes, ascites and pleural effusion resolve promptly after the complete resection of the ovari...
