Multiple reversible episodes of subcortical ischemia following postcoital middle cerebral artery dissection.

چکیده
BACKGROUND Subcortical transient ischemic attacks are usually seen in individuals with small-vessel disease. They are often refractory to medical treatment and progress to infarction in many cases. PATIENT We describe a young man with an unusual and protracted case of recurrent capsular ischemia due to postcoital middle cerebral artery dissection. CONCLUSION Spontaneous middle cerebral artery dissection should be considered in young patients presenting with subcortical transient ischemic attacks.

Background & Aims: Blood-brain barrier (BBB) breakdown and nitric oxide (NO) overproduction following cerebral ischemia-reperfusion extensively happens in the subcortical regions (core areas). Hence, we assessed the effects of NO inhibition by L-NAME on transcription of the transmembrane proteins claudin-3 and 12, with key role in BBB structure, at subcortical areas following cerebral ischemia-...
متن کاملPostcoital carotid artery dissection associated with acute cerebral infarction: a case report.
Carotid arterial dissections may result from spontaneous or traumatic causes. Postcoital arterial dissections have been reported in both the vertebral and coronary arteries. We report a rare case of spontaneous dissection from the common carotid artery to the internal and external carotid arteries after sexual intercourse, leading to fulminant middle cerebral artery (MCA) territory infarct. Alt...
متن کاملTRPV1 receptor-mediated expression of Toll-like receptors 2 and 4 following permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion in rats
Objective(s): Stroke is known as a main cause of mortality and prolonged disability in adults. Both transient receptor potential V1 (TRPV1) channels and toll-like receptors (TLRs) are involved in mediating the inflammatory responses. In the present study, the effects of TRPV1 receptor activation and blockade on stroke outcome and gene expression of TLR2 and TLR4 were assessed following permanen...
متن کاملResearch Paper: Optimization of Transient Focal Cerebral Ischemia Model by Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion
Introduction: Cerebral ischemia is one of the most common causes of death in human populations in the industrial communities. The need for animal models is inevitable to study the pathophysiology and treatment of cerebral ischemia in human. The current study aimed at evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of different techniques used to create ischemia in previous studies and optimizing the tr...
متن کاملFructose-1,6-bisphosphate reduces infarct volume after reversible middle cerebral artery occlusion in rats.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE We tested the hypothesis that fructose-1,6-bisphosphate, when administered 10 minutes before the end of 2 hours of reversible middle cerebral artery occlusion, reduces ischemia-reperfusion injury and infarct volume measured after a 3-day survival period in rats. METHODS After 1 hour and 50 minutes of middle cerebral artery occlusion by the intraluminal suture method, fr...
