Treatment of Bagasse Pulp Wastewater by Flocculant- Producing and Lignin-adsorbing Bacterial Sludges

Aerobic treatment of bagasse pulp wastewater could be greatly improved by flocculantproducing and lignin-adsorbing bacterial sludges. The fine fibrous particles and lignln contained in the wastewater could be removed by the respective microbial sludge. They could replace the chemicals used for the secondary treatment. Continuous treatment of the wastewater by the sludges was conducted for two weeks. The COD content of the effluent decreased from 1189 ppm to 157 ppm while the degree of transparency increased from 3.5 cm to 19.6 cm. The quality of the discharged wastewater met government specifications.
