Algebraic geometry codes from polyhedral divisors

چکیده
A description of complete normal varieties with lower dimensional torus action has been given in [AHS08], generalizing the theory of toric varieties. Considering the case where the acting torus T has codimension one, we describe T -invariant Weil and Cartier divisors and provide formulae for calculating global sections, intersection numbers, and Euler characteristics. As an application, we use divisors on these socalled T -varieties to define new evaluation codes called T -codes. We find estimates on their minimum distance using intersection theory. This generalizes the theory of toric codes and combines it with AG codes on curves. As the simplest application of our general techniques we look at codes on ruled surfaces coming from decomposable vector bundles. Already this construction gives codes that are better than the related product code. Further examples show that we can improve these codes by constructing more sophisticated T -varieties. These results suggest to look further for good codes on T -varieties.

Polyhedral Divisors and Algebraic Torus Actions
We provide a complete description of normal affine varieties with effective algebraic torus action in terms of what we call proper polyhedral divisors on semiprojective varieties. Our theory extends classical cone constructions of Dolgachev, Demazure and Pinkham to the multigraded case, and it comprises the theory of affine toric varieties.
متن کاملSome computational tools for estimating the parameters of algebraic geometry codes
We survey some recent advances in computational tools for determining estimates of the parameters of algebraic geometry codes. We show how the Weierstrass semigroup and its minimal generating set may be used to find the pure gap set as well as floors and ceilings of certain divisors. The code parameter estimates obtained are at least as good as the bounds given by Goppa and in many cases are an...

متن کاملA Riemann-roch Theorem in Tropical Geometry
Recently, Baker and Norine have proven a Riemann-Roch theorem for finite graphs. We extend their results to metric graphs and thus establish a Riemann-Roch theorem for divisors on (abstract) tropical curves. Tropical algebraic geometry is a recent branch of mathematics that establishes deep relations between algebro-geometric and purely combinatorial objects. Ideally, every construction and the...
متن کاملNotes on Algebraic-geometric Codes
Ideas from algebraic geometry became useful in coding theory after Goppa’s construction [8]. He had the beautiful idea of associating to a curve X defined over Fq, the finite field with q elements, a code C. This code, called Algebraic-Geometric (AG) code, is constructed from two divisors D and G on X , where one of them, say D, is the sum of n distinct Fq-rational points of X . It turns out th...
