Ubiquitin ligase-coupled receptors extend their reach to jasmonate.

چکیده
Plant growth and development is exquisitely tuned to the environment. The capacity for plants to adapt to myriad environmental stimuli is mediated by hormones that regulate virtually all aspects of development, physiology, and metabolism. The fatty acidderived hormone jasmonate (JA) is a prime example of a small molecule that orchestrates phenotypic plasticity in rapidly changing environments (Howe and Jander, 2008; Browse, 2009a; Pieterse et al., 2009). Remarkable recent progress in dissecting the JA pathway has opened up new opportunities to study mechanisms of small-molecule sensing, transcriptional regulation, and interconnectivity between hormone response pathways. Here, I discuss recent advances in JA perception and signaling, and highlight areas of research that promise to contribute to the future of plant biology.

Ubiquitin-Mediated Regulation of Endocytosis by Proteins of the Arrestin Family
In metazoans, proteins of the arrestin family are key players of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRS) signaling and trafficking. Following stimulation, activated receptors are phosphorylated, thus allowing the binding of arrestins and hence an "arrest" of receptor signaling. Arrestins act by uncoupling receptors from G proteins and contribute to the recruitment of endocytic proteins, such as cla...
متن کاملTargeted Ubiquitination and Degradation of G-Protein-Coupled Receptor Kinase 5 by the DDB1-CUL4 Ubiquitin Ligase Complex
The G protein-coupled receptor kinases (GRKs) phosphorylate agonist occupied G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and desensitize GPCR-mediated signaling. Recent studies indicate they also function non-catalytically via interaction with other proteins. In this study, a proteomic approach was used to screen interacting proteins of GRK5 in MDA-MB-231 cells and HUVEC cells. Mass spectrometry analys...

The anti-inflammatory effects of the prototypical second messenger cAMP have been extensively documented in multiple cell types. One mechanism by which these effects are achieved is via Epac1 (exchange protein directly activated by cAMP 1)-dependent induction of SOCS-3 (suppressor of cytokine signalling 3), which binds and inhibits specific class I cytokine receptors. One important aspect of SO...
متن کاملThe Arabidopsis CORONATINE INSENSITIVE1 protein is a jasmonate receptor.
Jasmonates play a number of diverse roles in plant defense and development. CORONATINE INSENSITIVE1 (COI1), an F-box protein essential for all the jasmonate responses, interacts with multiple proteins to form the SCF(COI1) E3 ubiquitin ligase complex and recruits jasmonate ZIM-domain (JAZ) proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. To determine which protein directly binds to jasmonoyl-iso...
متن کاملSocial Network: JAZ Protein Interactions Expand Our Knowledge of Jasmonate Signaling
Members of the family of JASMONATE ZIM-DOMAIN (JAZ) proteins are key regulators of the jasmonate (JA) hormonal response. The 12-member family is characterized by three conserved domains, an N-terminal domain, a TIFY-containing ZINC-FINGER EXPRESSED IN INFLORESCENCE MERISTEM domain, and a C-terminal Jas domain. JAZ proteins regulate JA-responsive gene transcription by inhibiting DNA-binding tran...
