An OGCM with movable land–sea boundaries

چکیده
An ocean general circulation model (OGCM) with wetting and drying (WAD) capabilities removes the vertical-wall coastal assumption and allows simultaneous modeling of open-ocean currents and water run-up (and run-down) across movable land–sea boundaries. This paper implements and tests such a WAD scheme for the Princeton Ocean Model (POM) in its most general three-dimensional setting with stratification, bathymetry and forcing. The scheme can be easily exported to other OGCM’s. 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Atmospheric pCO2 sensitivity to the solubility pump: Role of the low-latitude ocean
[1] Previous research has shown that the atmospheric pCO2 sensitivity to changes in lowlatitude sea-surface chemistry (‘‘low-latitude sensitivity’’) depends on both the volume of the ocean ventilated from low latitudes and on the degree of air-sea disequilibrium at high latitudes. However, it is not clear which effect is more important. In this paper we present a diagnostic framework for quanti...
متن کاملA thermal oscillation under a restorative forcing
The authors report an interdecadal oscillation in a windand thermally-driven ocean general circulation model (OGCM). The oscillation is tantalizing in that it occursunder a relatively strong thermal damping(26.3 W m-2K-’). Examinations involving a two-dimensional OGCM, a simple thermal ‘flip-flop’ model, and a three-dimensional OGCM with and without the nonlinear effect of temperature in the st...
متن کاملSimulation of More Realistic Upper-Ocean Processes from an OGCM with a New Ocean Mixed Layer Model
A new ocean mixed layer model (OMLM) was embedded into an ocean general circulation model (OGCM) with the aim of providing an OGCM that is ideal for application to a climate model by predicting the sea surface temperature (SST) more accurately. The results from the new OMLM showed a significant improvement in the prediction of SST compared to the cases of constant vertical mixing and the vertic...
متن کاملAn inverse approach to estimate bubble-mediated air-sea gas flux from inert gas measurements
An ocean general circulation model (oGCM) was used in concert with a global database of inert gas measurements (Ne, Ar, N2/Ar and Kr/Ar) to constrain the magnitude of bubble mediated air-sea gas flux. We illustrate the inverse method using a simple bubble model that includes two end member types of bubbles: small bubbles that completely dissolve, and larger bubbles that briefly are submerged an...
متن کاملSeasonal variability in the Central Mediterranean Sea circulation
A high resolution eddy-resolving primitive equation numerical model, based on the Princeton Ocean Model (POM), is used to study the seasonal variability of the general circulation in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The model is run on a seasonal cycle, perpetual year simulation for five years, with nesting to the coarser resolution Ocean General Circulation Model (OGCM), covering the whole Medit...
