Elastic instability of polymer-shelled bubbles formed from air-in-oil-in-water compound bubbles

چکیده
We study the stability of polymer-shelled bubbles with controlled dimensions generated from air-in-oil-inwater (A/O/W) compound bubbles. We show that the ratio of the shell thickness to bubble radius is critical in generating un-deformed polymer-shelled bubbles from A/O/W compound bubbles. In addition, the effects of shell stiffness and encapsulated gas on bubble stability are also investigated. Disciplines Engineering Comments Suggested Citation: Lee, M.H. and Lee, D. (2010). Heat transfer enhancement due to air bubble injection into a horizontal double pipe heat exchanger
If an air flow is injected into a liquid fluid, many ambulant air bubbles are formed inside the fluid. Air bubbles move inside the liquid fluid because of the buoyancy force, and the mobility of these air bubbles makes sizable commixture and turbulence inside the fluid. This mechanism was employed to enhance the heat transfer rate of a horizontal double pipe heat exchanger in this paper. Howeve...
متن کاملThe Air Bubbles and Foam in the Bag of Platelet: Effects on the Quality of the Final Product
Background and Aims: The quality of platelets (PLT) during storage is influenced by various factors. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential effects of the air bubbles and foam in the bag of platelet and its effects on the quality of the final product. Materials and Methods: In this paired-study, the air bubbles and foam, which develops after the preparation of the platelet un...
متن کاملMechanical Behavior of Concrete, Made with Micro-Nano Air Bubbles
Nano materials have been widely used in laboratory and industrial scales in order to improve various properties of concrete and concrete mixture. The mainstream practice of the researches in this field is to add metallic nano-particles into the concrete mixture. The present research focuses on adding Micro-Nano Air Bubbles (MNAB) into water before mixing it with aggregate and cement mixtures. I...
متن کاملEffect of hydro-oleophobic perfluorocarbon chain on interfacial behavior and mechanism of perfluorooctane sulfonate in oil-water mixture
Perfluorocarbon chain of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) is not only hydrophobic but also oleophobic, and its effect on PFOS distribution in oil-water mixture and underlying mechanism are unclear. For the first time, we propose that PFOS can emulsify oil-water mixture only in the presence of air, completely different from hydrocarbon surfactants. The perfluorocarbon chain repels hydrophobic co...
متن کاملNanoemulsions obtained via bubble-bursting at a compound interface
Bursting of bubbles at an air/liquid interface is a familiar occurrence relevant to foam stability, cell cultures in bioreactors and ocean–atmosphere mass transfer. In the latter case, bubble-bursting leads to the dispersal of sea-water aerosols in the surrounding air. Here we show that bubbles bursting at a compound air/oil/water-with-surfactant interface can disperse submicrometre oil droplet...
