چکیده

Correspondence to: I. G. Stevens Abstract. A fine-resolution primitive equation numerical model is constructed for the Iberian continental shelf and slope region, with open boundaries to the north, south and west. The model is forced by climatological wind fields and relaxed at the surface to climatological temperature and salinity fields. A series of numerical experiments is conducted to investigate the influence of the open boundary conditions. The numerical results include coastal upwelling in summer and a poleward current in winter. The effects of advection of Mediterranean Water and eastern North Atlantic Central Water feature in the circulation. Qualitative comparisons are made with observations.

High-resolution nested model simulations of the climatological circulation in the southeastern Mediterranean Sea

As part of the Mediterranean Forecasting System Pilot Project (MFSPP) we have implemented a highresolution (2 km horizontal grid, 30 sigma levels) version of the Princeton Ocean Model for the southeastern corner of the Mediterranean Sea. The domain extends 200 km offshore and includes the continental shelf and slope, and part of the open sea. The model is nested in an intermediate resolution (5...

A BOUNDARY-FITTED SHALLOW WATER MODEL OF SIMULATE TIDE AND SURGE FOR THE HEAD BAY OF BENGAL – APPLICATION TO CYCLONE SIDR (2007) AND AILA (2009)

Severe Tropical Cyclones associated with surges frequently hits the coastal region of Bangladesh. For a reliable hydrodynamic model to simulate the severity of such cyclones, it is necessary to incorporate the meteorological and hydrological inputs properly. In order to incorporate the coastlines and the island boundaries properly in the numerical scheme a very fine grid resolution along the co...

Nonlinear Gulf Stream Interaction with Deep Currents: A Numerical Simulation

A two-way-coupled duo grid primitive-equations-based ocean model is used in a 75-year simulation of the North Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico region between 10◦ N and 73◦ N. All advection and horizontal pressure gradient terms are fourth-order accurate on a semi-Collocated control volume grid. By construction of surface freshwater and heat fluxes, the model multi-year ensemble ...

Hydrodynamic Modelling of Coral Reefs:Ningaloo Reef-Western Australia

As with all coral reef systems, the ecology of Ningaloo Reef is closely linked to water circulation which transport and disperse key material such as nutrients and larvae. Circulation on coral reefs may be driven by a number of forcing mechanisms including waves, tides, wind, and buoyancy effects. Surface waves interacting with reefs have long been known to dominate the currents on many coral r...

Operational analysis of NW Mediterranean shelf

In this paper, we present the results from a high horizontal resolution numerical simulation of the northwestern Mediterranean using a z-level, non-hydrostatic, primitive equation ocean model (DieCAST). The high resolution allows an accurate representation of the submarine canyons that presides in the region. The model is one-way 5 coupled to a large scale model of the Mediterrenean Sea through...
