چکیده

N color palette—the changing sky, autumn leaves, the tinted irises of beloved eyes—has allured human interest since time immemorial. Scientific advances over the past twenty years have led to a far better understanding of the relevance and physiological basis of color experience than ever before. Recent research in molecular genetics, color perception and cognitive psychology is clarifying the underpinnings of human color sensations, how color experience has evolved, and along which perceptual paths we might be headed as a species of color-experiencing individuals. Together, such advances suggest that extensions of color perception theory are needed to account for retinal photopigment diversity unanticipated by accepted models of color vision trichromacy.

Investigating Potential Human Tetrachromacy in Individu- als with Tetrachromat Genotypes Using Multispectral Tech- niques

This article uses multispectral techniques to investigate color processing in two individuals possessing photopigment genotypes allowing potential human tetrachromacy. In our investigations wemeasure spectral reflectances from empirically reproduced color sensations of potential tetrachromat observers, and investigate color processing basis functions underlying the observed set of tetrachromat ...

Tetrachromatic Color Vision

The term“tetrachromacy” describes the physiological possession of four different classes of simultaneously functioning retinal photopigments (also called “weak tetrachromacy”). From an empirical standpoint, tetrachromatic color vision (or “strong tetrachromacy”) additionally requires demonstrating that mixtures of four independent appropriately chosen primary lights will simulate all distinctio...

Art, interpersonal comparisons of color experience, and potential tetrachromacy

Artistic representation of naturalistic scenes makes use of a range of visual processing features, and color and illumination are two that are frequently employed as strong dimensional emphases, especially in the medium of painting. Variations in human retinal photopigment classes are known to effect perception of light and color, and produce color appearance processing differences across indiv...

High complexity of aquatic irradiance may have driven the evolution of four-dimensional colour vision in shallow-water fish.

Humans use three cone photoreceptor classes for colour vision, yet many birds, reptiles and shallow-water fish are tetrachromatic and use four cone classes. Screening pigments, which narrow the spectrum of photoreceptors in birds and diurnal reptiles, render visual systems with four cone classes more efficient. To date, however, the question of tetrachromacy in shallow-water fish that, like hum...

Comparison of various sensitivity approaches to estimate evapotranspiration, to climatic variables in Fasa-synoptic station_Iran

Sensitivity analysis to determine variations in evapotranspiration is much important considering a known variation in one of climatic variables. In this study, sensitivity of evapotranspiration from Penmann-Mantith, Penmann-Kimberly (1996), Penman-Kimberly (1972) and Penmann (1984)  and Hargrivs (1985) approaches to three climatic variations (maximum temperature, wind speed, solar radiation) wa...
